I am, in posting this, well aware that actions such as this occur, and have occurred, with regularity for centuries. However, this particular story has genuinely disturbed me, primarily, I admit somewhat selfishly, because it happened only some half a mile or so from my grandparents house, and my recently deceased grandfather was nearly buried in the graveyard despoiled by the vandals. My reaction was primarily one of confusion. What drives somebody to kick the gravestones of the dead over so senselessly, without consideration for their emotive value for the families concerned?

n.b. Happily, my dad, quoted incidentally at the conclusion, tells me that one of the offenders broke his leg when a gravestone collapsed on it. Am I alone in the conviction that he ought to be witheld NHS treatment for this until such a time as he remunerates the church for the considerable damage incurred?

Isn't karma a bitch. But yeah they think theyre cool or hard or whatever and try to prove it. Vandals are usually idiots.

An asshole, or rather a group of assholes, with no regard for the feelings of others and probably a few screws loose.

He should still be treated for his injury.

Your dad's a detective?

I'm not sure about the graveyard thing. All I can say is people are assholes.

As to withholding medical treatment, I believe that qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment. Serves the idiot right, of course, but withholding medical treatment is a whole other thing.

Some people just have no respect for the dead.

The graveyard is a final resting place regardless of who the person was in their life. It is a place where the family buried their beloved so they know the bodies aren't floating around the earth. That way they feel there is something left, at least a sign that says this person was here and they mattered to someone.

This kind of thing is just wrong. Why would someone vandalise a graveyard? There is nothing to be gained from it.

They probably just like to piss people off for the hell of it. I remember some kids came to the church near my house at night and smashed the statue that was in the front.

At my great grandmother's funeral, we were all having lunch and I didn't feel like finishing my soda. Well, in elementary school, all the kids would dump their sodas at the base of the tree if they weren't finished with them. So I dumped my soda next to a tree right on someone's grave. Yea, I ran away after I realized what I was doing and the fact that everyone was staring at me.

more importantly why would someone go dogging in the child's section? as I have found out from my local...graveyard

I'd like to say it's a one-off, but... well, the War Memorial of my town was vandalised with two cans of red Dulux. Dignified, huh?

It is because we live in an age where nothing is sacred. I feel similar disgust when people vandalise and steal from churches.

The same thing happened in my village a few years back. However, the vandals targeted the (probably) expensive, pre-1890s gravestones and really ornate ones. I thought it was a bit ridiculous but not really malicious.

OP used "primarily" twice. "chiefly" could have been substituted.
