Needy Pets

My cat is very needy right now.

She's sitting between my forearms as I type. At least my ergonomic keyboard allows for me to type around her... It's still annoying though. She does this whenever I write or play games.

Who has a needy pet? What do they do when they get needy?

All my pets are needy. They are constantly trying to get attention in the form of playing, petting, cuddling, etc. Unless I'm too preocupied I generally let them indulge.

My dog often feels the need to stick her nose in my beer. It's kind of annoying. Especially when she spills it. Then I yell at her and chase her while knocking things over and she cowers under the table for a while. I wouldn't hit her, but I'm not above scaring the crap out of her.

My dogs are fairly lazy, so they'll lay around a lot if I'm working. But if they want attention, they get pretty needy. Both have a habit of coming over and interrupting whatever I'm doing by putting their nose up under my arm and trying to make me pet them. One of them also whines annoyingly often.

But I loves them anyways. =)

Yes. My cat meows all the time. Depending on what mood I'm in I'll indulge him or ignore him.

Reptiles aren't that needy, except that you put them in a cage so you have to bring food to them. They don't even really know or care who you are.

Which is actually why I don't much like them as pets. I don't need that fawning affirmation that comes from owning a dog, but I'd at least like the pet to recognize me.

Though for some reason my iguana insisted on being hand fed.

Maybe she thinks that if your not aware of her she'll end up trapped again.

Amelia can be needy sometimes, espically if she wants to play, or be fed or petted. She espically is needy when she wants someone to go to bed. Serria (our dog) just lives to be petted, he'd want you to pet him forever if you could.

Maybe she thinks that if your not aware of her she'll end up trapped again.

That is a depressing thought. But I hope that she will now know not to go down there should the crawlspace door be opened again.

Of course I think it may have been a good thing for her, before she was very skittish and only cared for attention at rare occasions. Now she is like every other cat out there, ready to leap at an open lap as soon as it is available. :)

my cat maya is a shameless attention seeker, and very peristent with it too. if you're dong something like reading a book or watchng tv or using the computer he'll do his best to get between you and it. he also gets himself into positions that he can't get out of without coaxing or a ladder. several times he has climbed up onto the chimney stack and then realised he has vertigo and spent the afternoon up there just yowling ntil we get the ladder out to get him down. he also gets onto the conservatory roof when the skylights are open and sticks his head through them to shout at you for no reason, like he is doing here:

Bubba (aka Clyde) jumps on tables or counters and starts pushing things onto the floor. He'll push something up to the edge, then look at me, then look at the article in question, then look at me - if I don't respond he'll knock it off, then he starts over again. He broke an antique Wedgewood box doing that - it's just a good thing I value living creatures more than I do things.

Emma meows piteously.

Bonnie gets underfoot and refuses to use the litter box (needless to say, she gets a lot of attention).

Persephone sits and stares at me ... and stares ... and stares ... and stares ... and stares ...

They're all needy.

My old roommate had a pitch black cat that I didn't see in the middle of the night and accidentally stepped on. After that he'd meow until we made eye contact every time I came around to insure that I saw him.

That sounds like my Yakineko. I think cats have an obsession for laying in the middle of any reading material. He also has a tendency to sit at the window of our second story apartment and howl at the window to be let in -never mind that it's open and all he has to do is walk through. Of course, when the window happens to be closed, it's even worse. He can't seem to figure out how to turn himself around and hop onto the porch less than two feet away. He's completely forgotten what doors are for.

I'll review the needyness of my pets:

Cooch (cat) - He's my baby, he's my first born and I love him to death and I would gladly die for him. Whenever he wants something he bites ankles, or pretends to be you're friend. He's also bipolar.

Popo (cat) - Likes attention, very soft and cuddly. Meows a whole lot and makes funny noises when she wants something

Andromeda (hedgehog) - Feed her, clean her cage, and take her outside for walks and let her run around while I watch TV and what not.

Fish - Feed them and clean the tank every once in a while

All and all, they're not terribly needy.

My dog is extra needy. He can never be in a room alone, and if I'm at home he just follows me around. If somebody is cooking downstairs, he barks at me to come down and check out the awesome food smells, but he won't go down alone. When I leave to go out, he mopes, and if I am out overnight and he's being babysat by my family, he mopes AND he won't eat unless they make him something special like eggs.

He's a little prince, I guess.

Did you raise him from being a puppy, or adopt him later in life? It sounds like behavior I've often heard attributed to pets that have previously suffered abuse or abandonment. My friend's cat used to avoid people, never leave the house, and generally stay in one room when people were over because they had adopted her from a shelter and the cat had previously been the victim of considerable abuse.

Of course, I'm just making assumptions, but maybe your dog was abandoned by a previous owner.

When my dog wants me to play with him he'll bark to annoy the hell out of me, start whining, or jump at the screen door. When I actually go out in the backyard to play, he justs grabs one of his toys and starts running around just like when I wasn't outside with him.

I have two cats, one male and one female. If I close the door at night, sometimes, he'll start scratching and meowing until I open it up. They also sleep in my empty bunk bed sometimes. In fact, there's a depression there where they always sleep. It's completely covered in cat hair. The entire bed.

My cat is fairly normal, as far as cats go, but if she wants attention, she'll do her best to get in your way no matter where you are walking to until you stop whatever it is you might be doing and lavish attention on her.

Sometimes it gets to be a little annoying...especially when trying to go up or down the stairs. :p

My dog is exceptionally social, but really not terribly needy. I do tease her, though, about being confused about what sort of animal she is, since when she particularly wants attention, she will often rub back and forth against people's legs exactly like a cat. (The only difference is that she will also occasionally charge headfirst into one's legs from sheer joy, which involves just a wee bit more force than if she were a cat...)

Heh. My dog often plays with me like that, too. She also loves going for walks "with" people more than anything in the world. I put "with" in quotes because she has no leash and walks somewhere around 50 yards in front of us, but somehow that is much, much, much more fun than going walking by herself. :p

My dogs not really very needy, although I know when he wants attention - because he shoves his nose into the back of my knee and tries to knock me over :P

My boyfriends dog on the other hand - even think about using a laptop around him and he'll go and sit on the keyboard. If I'm sat next to my boyfriend, the dog wants to be sat in the middle. Oh, and when I walk through the front door, he'll chase me around until I give up and go play catch. He's an attention whore.

My cat is only needy when I'm really busy, or in the middle of something. She never wants attention when I have nothing to do!

She also really enjoys "helping" me type when I'm on the computer. I think she is under the impression that walking over the computer keyboard fifty times in a row is an Olympic sport.

My cat, Awase, is normally aware when I don't want to give attention to her. She usually sleeps somewhere near me, and only interupts if she needs feeding or her litterbox cleaned. She is however unaware that people's night vision isn't as good as her own; she gets stepped on relativly often. Sometimes, she burries herself in my bed covers, luckily I haven't crushed her yet.:)

My cats eating habits drive me crazy. When will he learn that....

1 - I cook steak for me, not him
2 - Cheese based snacks are for human consumption
3 - Fresh milk is far better to drink than toilet water (especially if its not been flushed)

Mind you, how should I expect him to like tuna flavoured cat food - he's NEVER gonna catch on of them in the wild. Maybe they should bring out 'small rodent' or 'defencless bird' flavour

Cat - Named Popcorn (my sister comes up with wierd animal names) less than a year old and bigger than my whole torso (and I'm 6'4"!). Wakes people up at night for lovins, only goes outside when people are nearby, and greets strangers at the door....

Dogs - Baby and Baker (Note the sister comment) beagles. Baby for some reason is obssesed with me, on the occasion I'm home she has to sit on/near me at all times and greets me as if I had left her alone and forgotten in some jungle full of carniverous plants that she barely escaped.
Baker gets jealous of both the fellow dog and the cat and begins to whine and complain when ignored, treats my mother like baby treates me.
