Indeed they are. A few weeks ago on TTV (http://www.rte.ie/tv/ttv/index.html) the host made use of the word "interweb". I can't remember the context at all unfortunately, but I was highly amused.

So, have you come across internet phrases in the "real world"? Have you ever gone so far as to use the word lol instead of laughing?

Yes. My wife actually says 'lol'. And she's a girl. ON the intrawebs!

I say 'Owned' and 'O rly' quite regularly, but generally only if I think the other people will understand my deliberate usage.

I've heard people use "own". I've been planning on using "blag" and "wobsite", but I haven't had the chance.

I've also heard own, along with leet. I think owned existed before teh interwebs though.

Singular's commercial where the mother is talking about their high phone text messaging bill and the daughter is talking in complete Text Speak.

Mother calls the daughter... young girl walks in holding phone.
D: WU [subtitles: What's Up?]
M: this phone bill, that's what's up. $50 dollars for text messages?
D: OMG NBD. [Oh My God, No Big Deal.]
M: yes it is a big deal, who are you texting 50 times a day?
D: IDK. My BFF Jill? [I Don't Know, My Best Friend Forever, Jill?]
M: well, tell your BFF Jill I'm taking away your phone. *Mother grabs phone out of daughter's hand.*
D: *shouts and stomps out of kitchen* TISNF! [That Is So Not Fair!]
M: Me paying this phone bill, that's... SNF!

I saw this commercial the other day, odd considering I never watch TV when the shows air, and skip through the commercials on DVR. Hilarious, quite a riot. God, I hope we never have shows like that, it will definately put American Television in the tubes.
