You get to own interesting things in the UK

For instance, you can own fighter jets or old bombers, and you can own tanks...

You can even use your tanks to make money...

Funny Advert ('http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Picture-of-YOUR-car-being-run-over-by-a-tank_W0QQitemZ110124093552QQihZ001QQcategoryZ18308QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem')

This is for an unusual service, if your car has been an old pig and your in the brackly northants area we will pick it up for you and run it over with a chieftain main battle tank on our next full monty day when people come from all over the country and learn to drive any of the 100 plus tanks i keep at www.tanksalot.co.uk

Small vans are also ok we dont want larger vehicles or the tank drives through them rather than over them and it can get a bit risky for the driver This is a genuien offer see my feedback 100%.if you live further we could still do the job on your motor but may have to charge a bit for collection . check before you bid call Nick on 01295 768400 07860 455636 If your cars a runner we could give you a lift home if your pretty local We always take a hat full of digital pics of every car crush and will email you the lot.We will need proof the car is yours and am happy for you to register it in our name or tick the scrapped box on the V5 and we will do the rest we need about 5 cars a month and are pretty flexible when yours gets it.You even qualify for a cheap tankdriving voucher .Who knows you may even win the Monty day and run over your own car.

Recently ran over a spankingly nice beamer worth a few grand seems the guys girlfriend was playing away with her boss so while she was on business with him for the weekend the boy friend got her pride and joy flattened by us ,after all he had bought it for her birthday. on this occasion i did insist it was registerd to us and we paid a pound for it with a proper sighned by him recipt. She found the pictures along with all her crap outsite his flat in bin bags poor girl

Probably the best way to have fun in a tank is running over cars - they don't offer any resistance at all, and they crush like empty beer cans.

I suppose there are those who were thinking, "what would a private citizen need with a tank?" and then there's this.

Just to show you that a tank can be a lot of fun.

A tank, that gets perhaps 5mpg when your gas costs $7.50 a gallon. That's fuckin brilliant.

Hell yeah! I've wanted to import a T55 or quite a while. I'd have loads of fun tearing around the local countryside in one of them.

I love going to the military shows down in England. All the tank owners travel to the annual War and Peace Show to drive round the arena and take part in re-enactments. Last year was quite fun.

I watched the enactment from atop a hill, and had a group of fellow military geek critics next to me.

"Why aren't they moving the Tiger I? It's been sitting there the whole time, and only fired a single round?"

"What's that officer doing? Trying to get shot?"

"Why is the German field gun aiming at the bottom of the hill in front of it?

"Hey cool the German half-tracks are flanking the Brits."

"Oh the British are withdrawing... OMG it's the American's and thier half-tracks!"

"The Tiger is surrendering!? It only got hit by a grenade on the side of the turret! Oh hey the commander is making a last stand... Oh wait he dropped his pistol, he's surrendering. Artillery section as well. The half-tracks are making thier getaway."

"Dude, like how many Americans actually died? Like 4? The Germans got wiped out!"

Last year there was a Jagdpanther, one of only three working condition vehicles.

you mean you don't get to own them in the US?? so you can own a full automatic assault rifle but not a decomissioned tank? seems pretty stupid to me.

I thought you couldn't own automatic weapons in the US. Or in some parts of it at least.

as far as i've gathered there is a movement to ban them but it isn't making much headway. could well be wrong though.

Probably because it is the only one running in England and they want to minimize the wear and tear.

You can in some states. However, you need to get a very expensive and difficult to obtain license. Hail the Wiki! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Firearms_Act#The_registration_process.2C_purchases.2C_taxes_and_transfers)

Anyway, you can buy decommissioned military vehicles in the US. When I lived in Colorado Springs there was a guy who had an old personnel carrier of some kind. There's also some place out there that sells old Shermans and such, but I don't remember the name of it.

What a misconception.

As of 1934, in the US it was illegal to purchase or own a fully automatic weapon without a National Firearms Act tax stamp:

200 dollars, and a 90 day FBI background investigation. You also need an approval in writing from your local law enforcement (if they think you're a nut, they won't approve).

You also surrender your rights against search and seizure - from then on, the ATF can show up, kick your door in without a warrant, and search your house to make sure you haven't sold it or transferred it.

Since 1934, only a handful of these (less than 5) have been used in any crime whatsoever.

If you read about a crime where a fully-automatic weapon (or silenced weapon) was used in the US, it was probably an illegally smuggled weapon.

After all, if you can import 20 million in cocaine in a ship, what are a few submachineguns (maybe 300 dollars each) to add to the shipment?

And no, you can't get them at the gunstore without getting the NFA permit first.

I just remembered someone posting a thread about how using a shoelace to "convert" a semi-automatic gun into a aumtomatic gun was a bad thing.

I just figure the German re-enactors might just be a bit sick of losing each and every year.

Yes you can own a tank in the United Kingdom........... however

You cannot take one on the road without having its turret locked in a rear facing position, it must also be under 42 tonnes in weight and have legal lights/number plate (counts out all those second hand Challenger and M1-Abrahams tanks) , if your tank weigh more than 42 tonnes you can only transport it as a 'special load' on a transporter that gives max weight per axle of 7.5 tones (British army found this out while towing their Challenger 2 tanks around the country)

Far as I remember those a basic regs (I may be wrong on 1 or 2 bits)

BUT since a Warrior APC weighs in at less than 42 tons , comes with a nifty 6 man carrying capacity and a neat machine gun on top you can own one of these AND drive it on the road

Ideal for the school run:eek:

A good replacement for the minivan, especially when you have a lot of friends or children...

I really want a tank now. Convert it to some cheaper alternative fuels, and it will make a great vehicle.

In the US, I`m sure you can have military graded aircraft.

I´ve just seen a show where people bought some russian aircraft from WW2 for 50.000 dolars.

Cheaper?

They tend to be more environmental, yeah, but not cheaper.

Surplus auctions are a great place to buy this stuff. I once read a report about a guy who bought two complete (unassembled) cobra attack helicopters.

Now, normally one can't buy cobra attack helicopters, so it was still legal to buy the munitions for a cobra attack helicopter.

Alternative fuels are cheaper in many places because they're not taxed as heavily.
