But to play any compressed music format (mp3, ogg, flac, etc) you have to decode it with a library that knows how to convert the the compressed stream of bytes into a raw stream of bytes which you send into the speakers. In my case, it is just sending the compressed byte stream to the speakers and emitting a high pitched shriek.

When I saw that 4chan and somethingawful made the cut and we didn't a few days back when I saw this, I felt a little betrayed by xkcd. Still love Mr. Munro though.

At first, I'd say we're near the Viral Straits, but that puts us near SomethingAwful, which I would not view as a good thing. So put us at the western edge of the Sea of Memes, roughly equidistant from the Viral Straits, the IRC Isles, and the Straits of Web 2.0.

About SomethingAwful, make the following change:

Add a small island to the west of WoW and the other MMOs. That is EVE Online. Lay minefields between EVE and 4chan/WoW.

Move SomethingAwful further north. Create a bridge between SomethingAwful and EVE.

How do I know this? Well, a while ago, the denizens of SomethingAwful invaded EVE, founding what is now the largest corporation in the game - Goonfleet. Goonfleet's alliance - Goonswarm - is a major power player in the world of EVE. I would say that if SomethingAwful were to crash completely, it woul have a serious effect on EVE politics.

How do I know this? Well, a while ago, the denizens of SomethingAwful invaded EVE, founding what is now the largest corporation in the game - Goonfleet.
