How do you feel about your home town?
This came up in another thread, I think it was about Pittsburgh, but the point is, I wanted to know if people felt a special way about their home town. I know some people hate their home town, some end up loving it after a while, and some people feel like there's no place as wonderful as one's home town.
I guess my home town is okay, but it's actually a suburb outside of the city and I'd like to get out and into the city itself.

Love it. But then, I'm lucky to have a pretty nice home town. I suppose there is something universal about familiarity and childhood. People are very much attached to places generally.
Do you mean the one I was born in or the one I live in?
I'd say, the one you spent the most childhood time in. Frankly, though I'd like to claim Glasshouses in Yorkshire, UK my hometown, as I spent several years there as a child. However, I'm not a citizen and we did come back in time for me to go to most of my school here in the states, so I call Columbia Maryland my hometown.

I'd prefer to live in London, though. Greatest city in the world.
I'd love to see London again now that I'm not 10 years old anymore. I bet I'd have more fun.

Well, I only spent my first few years in Edinburgh and have spent longer in England than Scotland, but I still feel more for Edinburgh than Billericay. I suppose, like everything, it boils down to definition, like my nationality.

One's home town is such a vague, personal thing, I figured people would just go with whatever they feel is correct for them.

I used to hate Jersey where i grew up, but now i've moved away and the place has become much more attractive, particularly as a sort of safe haven. i couldn't bear to move back though, not while my parents are still about, there's far too much drama to deal with. Edinburgh i love, but i am becoming somewhat dissollusioned with it as i face the realities of a limited job market and a decidedly uncertain future in the area regarding living arrangements.

Let me tell you a joke about my hometown:
So, Kim Jong-Il decides to nuke a city in the world. He first goes to *insert first city name here*, looks at the city, and suddenly feels bad. His advisor asked him why he looks so sad, and he says, "this city is too pretty to be nuked." So, they go to find another city. After arriving at *insert second city name here*, he once again looks sad. His advisor asked him the same question, to which he responded, "this city is too technologically advanced to be bombed. " So, they leave, to find a third city, which just happens to be my lovely hometown. Kim Jong-Il took one look at the city, and said, "let's go home." His advisor asked him why, and he replied, "this city has already been nuked."
Yep, that my lovely hometown. It looks like it's been nuked. Seriously.

My home town is pretty interesting if you don't live there. It's old, has some very cool buildings, and was home to Mr Wroe and the Christian Israelites. It also had (about 20 years ago) more pubs per square mile than anywhere else in England. The Brooke Bond Tea company came from there, as did Margaret Beckett. Engels visited and compared it favourably with neighbouring towns, for whatever that's worth.

It's really the fault of leftists. They won't let people like me make fun of religious people on the specious pretext of "tolerance". This allows the god botherers to proceed unhindered.

Port Aransas was, and still is, excellent. It has the flair of a New England fishing town with a near-tropical climate and a hell of a beach. Not only that, most of the people are actually from New England (and the Midwest), so southern accents in the town (not to mention Corpus Christi) aren't all that common. Above all other things, it was the people that really made it special.
I'd like to go back, sure. But live there again? Nah, maybe during the summer... I'd rather live in the Northeast.
By the way, just out of curiosity ... I've noticed that all your posts have lightbulbs. Every one. Why?

Want to join the "I vote we nuke this place from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." bandwagon? :)
Sure! http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/GermanNightmare/GigerAlienSmiley.jpg (I just knew I had heard that before!)

I was born in Oakland, California and grew up in Fresno, California. I now live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Fresno used to be a great place to live, now it's a gang and drug-infested pest hole. I'll never go back.

I love it, I reckon Melbourne's great.
I like it. At least it's not Adelaide.

i do like it here :)
its a small-ish city of about 300,000 people, so it has some good amenities, restaurants and a great shopping centre, but the city is divided in two by an estuary meaning the place seems a lot smaller and nicer than it is... less traffic and congestion (and pollution and crime) than there could be, for example :)
there's also neighbouring Portsmouth 20 minutes down the motorway, and its built up in-between, meaning this area is pretty much a conurbation of about 1.4 million. hence there's more good stuff around.
there's great rail links and a motorway that goes straight up to London, a massive 400 acre park in the middle of the city, a UK-top-10 university, and the New Forest right on our doorstep. its also pretty easy to get across to France from here.
all in all i like it here :)
probably the best part (for me) is its a working class city and far less posh than most of the rest of Hampshire. possibly as a result property prices here are a fair bit lower than in the rest of the south-east region, which is good for little old me trying to buy first time!
the fact that the city is also a major port also gives the city a lifesblood of its own, meaning the city isn't quite so affected by changes in the economy as other places might be.

Adelaide isn't too bad. Bit boring but thats about it.
I actually found Hobart worse when I went travelled there (the cold, brrrr).

I've never really liked my hometown, and when you see it you'll understand why.
Riverdale, Michigan (http://maps.google.fr/maps?f=q&hl=fr&q=riverdale,+Michigan&ie=UTF8&ll=43.384622,-84.827371&spn=0.013598,0.040169&z=15&om=1)
I currently live here, which I love, but I have to move away in about a month or so.
Angers, France (http://maps.google.fr/maps?f=q&hl=fr&q=angers,+france&ie=UTF8&ll=47.478232,-0.528717&spn=0.10117,0.32135&z=12&om=1)
This is the town I'm moving back to. It's the closest thing I have to a "home" at the moment. Over the last year or so I was there I began to appreciate it, and since I've been here I've begun to appreciate how much less stressful it is to live in a small town.
Mount Pleasant, Michigan (http://maps.google.fr/maps?f=q&hl=fr&q=mount+pleasant,+michigan&ie=UTF8&ll=43.610725,-84.768105&spn=0.108381,0.32135&z=12&om=1)
I like it. I dare say it could be much worse.
