anyone got any?

I was wondering today (since it's mother's day US) what kind of things my kids will latch on to as cool childhood memories.

I really don't have many, but one was pretty cool, a friend of my mom's took me to the airshow and I got to go inside an AWACS plane, I didn't get to touch anything, but it was really neat to see something that big and to get to go inside.

so, whatcha got?

too many to bring up.

the sound of loons on the lake at sunrise.

swimming with my cousins at the "little beach"

ice skating on the duck pond

stealing rhubarb out of the garden of summer people

having 20 people for thanksgiving dinner all getting along talking and laughing

learning to ride my bike and knocking over the bennet's uncle sam mail box

making tunnels in the hay barn of another summer family

setting up house in the woods

picking blueberries and having my mom make muffins with them

you dont know what your kids will remember fondly. its not really the big things like a trip to disneyworld. its the holidays, the family times, the little victories, the games and silliness. if you do a good job with those (and i know you do) your kids will have a lifetime of cherished memories.

None that I can remember at this time.

Riding around on my cousin's back; driving an old blue Ford tractor across the village green; making a treehouse, going for bike-rides... sunny days and going to the pub with my dad, drinking lemonade. :p

I'm in the process of blocking out my entire childhood.

Just about all of them, really.

Road trips around the country to see all the great natural wonders, time spent exploring the pine forest hills and canyon-bottom-creek up north by the cabins, riding around in a golf cart at my dad's resort, going to airplane museums, climbing trees in the yard, playing guns, my aunt's beautiful house in the hills behind Oakland CA with deer, the smell of airports and airplanes, getting little pin-on pilot wings from the airline, going up to say hi to the pilot during the flight (waaaay pre-9/11 in retrospect!)...

had a genuinely happy childhood.

AWACS Plane. Woohoo, you changed it!

As far back as I can remember, nothing significant sticks out. I have a lot of very good memories, but they're all about equal to each other.

my mum asked me recently if i had any significant childhood memories of her cuz she was feeling somewhat dejected about not being a big part of my childhood working 14 hour days through most of it. rather distressingly i couldn't remember anything. my memory doesn't seem to go back to my childhood except for random snapshots of seemingly insignificant events.

I'll let you know, based on whether or not I get the summer internship I've applied for.

Well when I was 12 I accidentally got drafted into the army.

It might explain why I'm missing my left leg from the knee down.

My mum teaching me to write.

Creeping downstairs late at night (or what seemed late at the time!) to sit on the bottom stair and listen to my mum practice piano. I remember best a Schubert impromptu which has remained an inspiration with my own practice.

ooh, actually i remember one christmas when my parents couldn't afford to buy us any presents cuz they nearly had to declare bankruptcy, they actually taught themselves how to do baloon modelling and made loads of models of reindeer and santas and all sorts. that was pretty cool. i suppose i would have been about 8 or 9 then.

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that
special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry

(If I tried to think of the real nice childhood memories I'd probably go sentimental on you... :()

Not any *cool* ones. I have some very good memories of living in the UK, but really they're rather insignificant... I have those kinds of memories from living in Ohio and Virgnia too...

And of course hardly any good ones in NC, unless you count the road trips to Ohio and Florida....
