My son took me to see the Colorado Rockies trounce the San Francisco Giants at Coors Stadium tonight (this only the second professional baseball game I've ever gone to). The stadium is beautiful, the seats were ok, the weather was outstanding - we did the beer, hot dogs and cotton candy thing - basically it was an all-American evening, even my daughter the inveterate sports hater enjoyed herself.:p

What I found strange was Barry Bonds (we were in left-field seats, so we had a clear view of him - and all the Denver cops who were standing around guarding him when the Giants were in the field). Everyone booed when he went to bat (even Giants fans). He hit two long flies, which were caught, and, at the top of the ninth inning, with his team behind by 4 points and with two outs, HE STRUCK OUT. Mostly he stood in left field posing and not doing much else. He's supposed to be this great player, but apparently he's just a grandstanding idiot and a detriment to his team. Why does he continue to play?

Why does he continue to play?
Because he holds the all time season record for home runs and is less than 10 behind the all time record.

Not to mention a host of other awards and records.

Money. And you've gotta do something with all those steroids in your system, can't just sit around the house! :p

amazing how huge doses of steroids can make you a hero, and stopping those steroids can make you a fat slob who still insists on wearing a uniform 2 sizes too small...

He must have been having an off day? last I knew he was still in the top 10 for homeruns this season and every player has been known to have a bad day. Now I'm not much of a baseball fan but I know a few, so I know something about baseball (and just because its fun to do I try to makevit to one game a year)

Well, I understand he's off the roids. It's like when all those 80's rock bands quit drugs. Megadeath went from singing about war and death to singing songs about endangered species and the poor state of health care for the psychologically ill.
