I hate clowns they are ugly and scary looking. I have hated clowns since I was a very small child. So I am wondering if I have a phobia or some kind of issue about clowns or are clowns just weird and disturbing in general. What is your opinion on clowns?http://www.meshsf.com/blogs/150px-Johnwaynegacyclown.jpg

Many people find clowns disturbing. The movie and book "It" are somewhat to blame, as is John Wayne Gacy, but the real issue is that they seem so FAKE. They seem ARTIFICIAL, the way they're either grinning insanly, or weeping in a masquerade of grief. It seems like they are mocking the very essence of human emotions in everything they do. So it seems like a laughing clown is really laughing at everyone, and a crying clown is really thinking about ramming a sharp wooden spike up your anus while burning your children to death. Yeah, it's creepy. But are they creepy because they're inherently so... or is it because they reflect upon us?

Clowns are about as amusing as getting hit in the face with a hammer, which is to say "very, but only if they're happening to someone else." One thing I never did get, however, was how they're supposed to scare people. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I once saw a movie called (I think) The Greatest Show on Earth. It starred Charlton Heston and Jimmy Stewart (Stewart played the clown).
