Losing Weight Again..

Darknovae
12-05-2007, 01:15
Now I'm down to 95 lbs, according to the scale upstairs. The scale actually says I weigh 84 lbs, but it's set back 11 lbs for some reason, so I'm actually 95 lbs.

I have been eating less though, but I've switched medications and the medications don't want me to eat.

Should I force myself to eat and get nauseous, or should I try something else?

Would your doc be able to change your medication at all or are you stuck with them?

That was cold, and for a cynical guy who pretty much hates all of humanity to say "that was cold", well that was pretty damn cold.

Darknovae, what kind of medication is this, is this anti-depressant? Because if it is, then I've had similar experience of not wanting to eat, and I think you are going to have to force yourself to eat.

It's an ADD med, which is a stimulant.

oh, i see, i misread the OP. i'd say if your meds are causing you to lose your appetite to the point where you are not eating then you definitely need to see your doctor to get him/her to re-evaluate you prescription and maybe prescribe omething else.

that really shouldn't stop you. if you have a medical issue you have a medical issue. see a doctor. fuck the system, i don't know if there is an age limit on how old you have to be to see the doctor alone (it was 16 where i grew up) but if your meds are making you lose weight to the point that you are worried then you need to get a doctor to review the prescription. find someone to act as your guardian and copy down your parents' health insurance details if need be.

Well, depending on what kind of weight you are losing, you might either want to see a doctor, begin an exercise regimen, or increase caloric intake.

12-05-2007, 07:42
See a doctor, I think, to make sure it's not anything else causing it. In the meantime, I recommend you force yourself to eat what you can, but I have a similar problem and I often simply can't bring myself to eat more than one large meal a day, so I know it doesn't really work like that. Just make sure that what you do eat is healthy, because I tend to fill in the gaps when I actually do get hungry during the day with junk food. That's caused some problems for me - no vitamins or minerals going into my system, for example. Don't worry about weight so much, that's what you should keep an eye on instead.

Rotovia says: Get a fucking MySpace.

I say: If you really want to be healthy, I doubt you'd be talking about it on here. Talking about your weight (particularly when it is as unhealthy as yours) generally means you're fishing for attention, but if you really do want medical advice, it's pretty simple: 95 lbs is not healthy. Everyone knows that. So if you want to be healthy, you need to gain, and you need to see a doctor if you're finding it hard. Eat protien, complex carbs and "good" fats such as olive oil, avocado and nuts, as well as drinking fruit-juices (they have lots of calories but won't fill you up). A lot of the time not feeling hungry is a mind-set rather than a physical state. If the meds are really causing it, check it out, because the lower the go, the worse off your mental state will become as well.

I know, okay? I'm not trying to be bitchy.

The school nurse should have an anorexia hotbutton trained into her. I don't know if she does or not, and while this isn't anorexia, and the solutions are different, the school nurse should take seriously someone getting into a dangerous weight (which 95 pounds usually is, if you're not under 5' tall or missing one or more limbs.)

If you can, yes, force yourself to eat, but if your medications are making you lose your appetite, that's a real problem in the long run if it keeps up.

There are a bajillion different medications, and changing insurance shouldn't mean you're unable to see a doctor. You may need to see a different doctor, but wherever your mom got insurance, there should be someone within driving distance that takes one.

And to all those saying "go get a blog, I don't care, you're an attention whore," shoo. It's not spam, and weight management is a legitimate issue for concern.

Should I force myself to eat and get nauseous, or should I try something else?

Heh, I'm having the same problem...and I'm a guy.

I used to be fairly Obese a year ago, then between November and February I lost 70 pounds. I did start eating less, I can't really conciously say if I was eating much at all to be honest. Then I moved into my mom's again and I ate a lot, and sort of held my weight still at 178...now today, I step on my scale and I'm 170 (gone from 173 a few days ago).

I'm not sure what is happening either, I don't know if it's my body or if perhaps I do have an eating disorder I'm just unaware about. Anyways, I would think eating a good amount and excercising if you put on too much weight at first would be the best thing to do...

If you are getting nauesious from eating, I'd go see your Doctor and ask if about it. He might not be able to do anything, but he could set you up with a nutritionist to help you. Hopefully there'll be some sort of medication, or types of healthy food you could sort of pig out on and feel fine afterwards :P.

Anyways...yea...cool, I'm not the only NS'er with this problem...or sort of problem :-P.

EDIT: I just noticed you are already on Medication. I haven't seen what it is for, but if you could risk taking your self off of it for a few weeks and be able to try and eat more...see what results of it. But if the Medication is for something serious, don't take your self off of it just yet. Doctors will still talk to you if you're sincerely worried, and if you still have Health Insurance then no Doctor will turn you away really. So yea...or the school nurse, like what TJHairball said...but to be honest, I can only imagine he or she saying -

"Sounds like you may have a problem, maybe you should go see a doctor."

So, in other words, I think that'd be a waste of time.

I was asking for advice. I normally wouldn't talk about my weight, since most people would be like "OMG stfu your sooo pretty you don't look anorexic at all!!!11" and I hate that, since I'm underweight. But seriously, I wouldn't be asking for medical advice if I were a few pounds heavier.

And yeah, the meds are causing it... >.>

Yeah, we do have some doctors and they're two counties away, so I don't have to go to Virginia even though I've been going to Virginia doctors for years-- I've NEVER been to an NC doctor, I've lived here for 8 years.... though there is a clinic right in my town.

And I'm on an ADD medication-- Metadate. My doctor switched them so that I'd be in a better mood and have more of an appetite, and so far I'm only in a better mood.

I got nothing for this one, man. Is it a coincidence that this morning I said something about a flapjack being a pancake's anorexic little sister?

Well my younger sister does look like a twig, though she's 2 inches taller and 10 lbs. heavier than me. >.>

Weird. I was reading the cheese religion thread last night while a Sargento cheese commercial was on. Lot of coincidences going on.

And yeah, the meds are causing it... >.>

What medication is it? Ritalin?

And yeh, I know what you mean about the "anorexic!11" comments. The juice should help, because it won't fill you up. And try putting avocado or olive oil in all your salads/sandwhiches etc.

It's Metadate-- but it's Ritalin-based, like Concerta (which is what I was taking before). But I don't take my meds on weekends, that's beasically the only time I can eat without forcing myself to.

And thanks for the juice advice, I'll try to get more juice... :D :fluffle:

I can understand. I take mental meds (haha) as well. Luckily mine are meant to reduce my appetite slightly (history of bulimia). Most ADD/ADHD meds are amphetamine-like, just like Ritalin, so a lot of people on them experience the same thing. :fluffle:
