I've been thinking of shaving off my beard...but I figured I'd get some random internet opinion on the matter.

My pics are in the "Sexiest NSer" thread, but I'll post 'em here again so people can see what I'd be getting rid of.

(Admittedly, some of these aren't the greatest pictures. :p )

Questions:
How long have you had it?

How long will it take to grow it back when you realize you hate your face without it? (I ask from experience)

At this length? About 3 months...it was longer, but I had it trimmed. Before that, probably about a year.

From bare skin to current length? Probably about 2-3 months.

Or, to put it another way, how long till the creepy thing comes back? *Shudder*
Sorry, but that beard is just creepy.

So you haven't really had it long enough to have it become a vital organ, like I have. I shaved mine off completely 2 and a half years ago for the first time in 7 years, and I'll never do it again, I don't imagine. I keep a photo of myself handy to remind me when I get the urge, and that does the trick. Hell, I shaved it down to a goatee a couple of weeks ago and was a little weirded out by it, even though that's how I had it for years. Back to the full beard now.

I like facial hair on men.

For what it's worth - grow a mustache - then trim the beard and mustache into a nice, rakish goatee affair. Cut your hair - it doesn't have to be short, but it needs to be properly cut so it doesn't just hang there. Go for a nice English Renaissance rake look (I'm partial to those).

As i see it you have two choices

The wolfman option: Grow one hell of a Mo to go with the beard and look all crazed and piratey,

The cueball option: take everything off so you look all crazed and like a bald piratey guy...

I guess as an optional thing you could avoid the pirate look altogether... i suppose.

One should always keep their beard. In my opinion, most people who look okay in facial hair look stupid without it. Myself included. Plus, its a pain to shave every damn day unless you like the three o' clock shadow... So keep it, damn it!

Sorry man, but the beard and hair look pretty scraggly. I'd say lose the beard and trim the hair. Sanjaya might have gotten away with a ponytail mohawk but he's 17 - adults (that's you) look better clean cut.

(was talking about last picture) Dude, you still got it,, it's just a lot shorter.. also in the pic you left for the beardless you looked more presentable in action and all. I think you answered your own question when taking the photo. Do what you want to do man..it's only facial hair.. if it doesn't bother your work or your love life .. it's really a matter of what you want to do.

The main problem for me with a mustache is that the hair on that portion of my face comes in MUCH blonder than the rest...

...in other words, even with a full stache, it's hard to tell I've got anything growing there unless you come in for a real close look. :p

Why do I never picture liberals with beards? I'm always a bit taken back when I learn of if. I'm backasswards I guess. I always imagine libs with clean faces and whoopy hair do's. It's the repubs or libertarians I picture with beards mostly. But ofcourse I picture you all clean shaven.. when I imagine one runing for office.... like the presidents are. Who was the last president with a beard anyway? Good Lord I hope it wasn't Grant.

We are all free to grow our hair in ways that please us. However, you did ask for my opinion. You are a young man but have the hair and beard of a 45 year old professor from the seventies with a penchant for prog-rock.

Shave your beard off, get a number one on your bonce and I guarantee you you will get more tail.

Lincoln was the first, Harrison was the last. Between them were Grant, Hayes, and Garfield (in a row). No one's had even a mustache since Taft. Except for Van Buren's wild chops and John Quincy Adams' sideburns, the only time any had facial hair was that time period from Lincoln to Taft.

And keep the beard, if anything grow it longer.

I like it.

If you don't though, maybe shave off the sides and leave the chin, if you don't like that shave it all off and try to grow it different.

Hmm, I can't decide between "lose it" or "keep it and alter it". I'm not liking the "Amish look" so much myself, so maybe if you changed it into a full beard?

Long hair on males somewhat demands having facial hair. I had long hair from the time I was 13 until I was 23 (my girlfriend at the time cut it without my approval), and I looked pretty effeminate in retrospect until I was able to grow a good amount of beard. So I would say keep the beard, but alter it. And a hair trim should work to. Not a cut, just a trim

Keep it! Grow it longer man! Grow it to your stomach. That's what i'm doing, although it won't get there for probably another five years at least, as I've been growing mine for 4 and half months...

i dont see a reason to remove it. it looks good on you.

if you do decide to shave it off, go the whole way and get conservative haircut too. the new look will freak out everyone who knows you.

Personally I think I look like a giagantic 12 year old when I shave my moustache and soul patch off (so I just trim them down every few days).

Anyway, choice is yours. The best advice probably comes form the ladies though.

i shaved my beard off recently it was sort of like the 'hollywoodian' in this pic (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c5/Beardindex.jpg) but shaped so it was a fair bit longer at the chin and with sideburns too. i instantly regretted it because it altered the shape of my face so much.

your beard however is more of a face-framing rather than a shape-altering beard so unless you've got a flabby neck you'll probably get away with shaving it off without looking odd.

Keep your beard, buddy. get it at a comfortable length. Mine's nice and short, but it's fun to rub at times, especially during thoughtful considerations.

So all in all, I say keep it, but get it nice and short/fuzzy.

I voted for shaving it all off, but if you choose not to do that, then I vote for trying out a new facial hair configuration. Your current beard is not to my personal taste (but, y'know, I'm just some random chick on the internet, so please feel free to ignore me). :)

I think I'm going to alter this thing a bit. I'm not sure when I'll have a pic of it, but I'll be sure to gravedig this thread when I do so people can see the results. :p

You have a nice face - why hide it with a beard? Besides, the shape of your beard is really strange. It look like a fuzzy guard-at-buckingham-palace-helmet-strap. I agree with whoever it was that descried the mormon look - it's not doing you favors. Either make the beard grown farther up your chin, or get rid of it. Good luck!!!!

Whichever way you feel most comfortable man. No matter what ... once you get with your lady(oh are you already with her?) she will gradually hint, up to a demand, that you get rid of, or stop whatever the hell it is she doesn't like anyway. And You will comply, if you are smart.

Anytime you shave something that hasn't been shaved in a while... or much less EVER is fun hehe.
Well except for your head.. but hell maybe that's fun and liberating too.
