How long have you had your license?
I'm curious to know how long various posters have had their driving license/permit.
I myself, counting my temporary learners permit way back in high school, have been a licensed driver for more than eight years now.
Accident free the entire time as well! :)

I crashed my uncle's car, but he told the insurance he did it, so it's like I'm accident-free too, right? :p

Technically. :p
Let me see.
I got my learner's permit 13 years back. I've had my Nevada license for 11 years now. I had an International Drivers Permit for one year, 2 years ago and I've had my Japanese license for almost two years.
And just one small accident and a few parking tickets to show for it too.

Nearly five years, eighteen months of which was provisional.
About one and a half years. I got my license the year before last December.

I've had my learner's since August.
I never bothered. I really need a car, but on the other hand I couldn't afford to buy/run one until I get a new job anyway (unless I put all my savings into said car for about a year and a half, but that wouldn't make sense considering my present circumstances - i'd probably continue catching the bus to work, and use the car for recreational things, which i'd no longer be able to afford :p).
Less than 2 years if you count the permit.

I was driving before I ever got a permit. But as soon as I was able to get either, I got them. I can't remember the exact date I got my license but it was in 1990.

There is a "12 or more years" option. ;)

There is a "12 or more years" option. ;)Yeah... duh... it's what I chose.... but the "or more" doesn't really seem adequate when I've had my license almost three times as long as your longest specific timeframe. Hell it took me more than twelve years to realize driving like an asshole wasn't worth the tickets and insurance payments and didn't really get me anywhere faster.

Got driving licence in 2001 (that's more than 6 years ago) when I was 24. Only one accident, in 2002 - my fault, I crashed into the car in front of me because of wet road, but I was going at 30 km/h only so about 50€ damage to the other guy's car:) and about 800€ to my car:(
No fines till now, altough sometimes I have a "heavy foot" on the gas pedal - well, my car cannot go faster than 165 km/h anyway, it's just a 1050 cubic centimetres with a power of about 35 kW.

I got my permit in 1995, and my license in 1996. I have had it since.
I got into one accident 3 days after I had my license, it was determined by the officer who was driving behind me to be "not my fault really, but legally my fault", which meant it was my fault, but she didn't write me a ticket because she felt sorry for me.

I got mine upon my return from the U.S. in the summer of 1995 at 18.5 years.
So far I've had 2 bigger accidents while at the wheel, none of which have been my fault. And I was riding shotgun when a friend totalled my mom's car...

It's May, so I've had my license about a year now. I've been in three accidents that were all my fault, and I've had way too many close calls to count hahaha. The first two accidents were within 2 weeks of each other I believe. They were in my mom's van and I messed up the front twice. I wouldn't go as far as messed up, but it had taken some damage. They were back in July. The third was in....October I think, maybe November. That was in my car, and I went into the right lane without looking (at least I thought I looked). Luckily no one was called, and I just got to leave with a large dent and some scratches.

I love my bike. Parts are essentially free, as is labour. In my entire life, I have spent less than 200$ for bicycle tools. I can ride in the rain and shine, and it's all free, all the time.
In the thick urban morass of downtown traffic, I am a dragonfly among walruses. Fast and agile while others look on inside their idling steel boxes.
This time of year, all the young bucks come out with their shiny new bicycles. They are stronger than me, have better bikes than me, have more energy than me, and can pump their legs faster than I can, but I am faster.

25 years. Of course, for some of those years I didn't own a car, but I still had the license.
These days, if you don't have car insurance in North Carolina, you can't get a driver's license. And I'm not sure how that works for people who don't have cars (or whose families don't) - it seems to me that if you have no car, you can't get a license, and if you have no license you can't get a car. But I haven't looked into it in detail.

Which is why my parents are already adding me to their car insurance, though I don't even have my permit and you don't need insurance to get a permit.
Though NC's law is a good law, if it weren't for the minor flaw of needing a car. Which I won't have for probably over a year.

I got my permit about 3 years ago, but was too lazy to actually go to a driving school and make it all official so I've still got just a permit.
I mainly use it as a photo ID anyway, but it doesn't work really well in that respect anymore either, because since then I've lost weight and gained hair. Fucking jerk-offs in the airport held me up for about 15 minutes last time . . .

I'm coming up on having my license for 12 years. I got it in July of 1995. So far I've only been in one major wreck which was last year. Got blindsided by a drunk guy who ran a red light going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Broke my collarbone and busted up a few ribs. Bastard.
