Wow, no comments on the Blair resignation?

I thought I would wait and see if any UK people would post about it, or about his successor.
Strange to see this not come up as a topic.
Discuss what you think of the resignation, and whether or not you like/agree with/hate his successor, Gordon Brown.
Frankly, I think that other than the Iraq War, Blair did a lot for the UK, but at the expense of completely abandoning what Labour philosophically represented.
He seemed to concentrate on being electable, more than anything else.
Reminds me of Clinton, and his willingness to abandon core Democratic Party principles (and do things like "end welfare as we know it") and seek to straddle the center as much as possible to be electable.

I think that thread is dealing with it, at least in part.

I had no idea that Rev Smiler was the Queen's English for "Blair".

He was kind of a walking cipher as a leader. Decent politician, I suppose. Everyone interviewed this morning on NPR was of the opinion that his resignation was long overdue. What was the quote? "He was kind of a 'funky' guy at the outset..." and an analyst replied, "he was that, but 'funky' grows stale rather quickly without any substance behind it."
So the reaction you're not seeing strikes me as one giant, accented "meh".

Funky to start with, and funky to end. Though with two different meanings.
