I can't believe they're the first to make this comparison - is it valid?

If anything, the Ayatollah is the Emperor, Ahmadinejad is Vader, and the Westerners are the Jedi.

Also, how the hell does all the Force stuff get through Iran's Islamo-censorship?

The comparison that Lucas may have been naming bush and actions in the US? No, that was a news-story that has been around since Episode III's first showing. The thing was though: No one cared. People don't go to a summer Sci Fi flick to be preached at.

I think you'd be surprised at what's allowed on TV in so-called censored-TV nations. You might also be surprised at the level of debate among Iranians, they're an ancient and pretty civilized nation despite Western media attention on the extremism.

People all over the World has been making this comparison.. a long.. long time ago.

Yet, they still ban barbers from giving "Western" haircuts... REAL civilised.

Yes. I distinctly remember Bush saying, "I am your father. Join me, and we can rule the galaxy as father and son."

How about "you're either with us or against us"- GWB

and

"you're either with me, or you are against me" premutilated Darth Vader to obiwan

-edit-
on second review anakin says "you are with me, or you are my enemy" close enough.

The thing is, Lucas has said repeatedly that this story was written back during the Vietnam War.

That was the first trilogy. i am sure he said in an interview that he shaped the second trilogy in the movie part, to fit current trends in american politics. I'll try to find a link.

I think you're mistaking a critic for Lucas as he said that the back story was written during Vietnam on the comments section of the Ep III DVD.

Which is a lie. Lucas barely wrote the original trilogy during the Vietnam War.

Oh, of course. He only had the backstory for Vader all mapped out, including the duel between Obi-Won and Vader on a volcano planet.

1# the Star Wars movie.. and the 5 follow-ups are great movies, they are on my all time favs list.

2# I did not see any propaganda. (or at least less that in the average movie)

3# Some Movies I seen did carry a lot propaganda.. and still I loved them.. Like Top Gun (I can enjoy a movie and avoid to buy the Product at the same time)

The Iranians do love 'western' films. It is really only the old Iranian crowd that is seems to be intent on the restrictions. A huge percentage of the population is pretty young so reforms are inevitable.

LOL.. if anything the Arabs should be happy their country was chosen.

The Iranians are Persians, not Arabs.
