Inspired by Wilgrove's thread, I want you to react to THESE bumper stickers, as in what is the first thing you think. Don't censor for political correctness or anything else:

A bumper sticker reading "Gay Pride"

A bumper sticker reading "Woman Who Have Had Abortions Pride"

A bumper sticker reading "Muslim Pride"

A bumper sticker reading "Athiest Pride"

A bumper sticker reading "Wiccan Pride"

A bumper sticker reading "Catholic Pride"

I'm unoffended by all of them.

Eh, it's a bloody bumper sticker. If you need to express your feelings about something that badly, go to a message board or something.

Conversely, if you're offended by a bumper sticker, get a life.

I think they are all stupid. You have one involving pride in your chance (Gay), and the rest in your choices. None are really accomplishments. All are quite stupid. If you save someone's life, then MAYBE. What I don't get is why any religious person would want to broadcast a transgression of one of the seven deadly sins...

1. Not bothered.
2. Somewhat annoyed since it's so controversial and they're flaunting their view, almost as though bragging.
3. Not bothered.
4. Very annoyed; most atheists I know are intolerant scum who think that even the most easily refuted objection to the existence of God is proof enough. I'm sorry, it's not. (For the record, I'm an agnostic tending towards atheist at times.)
5. Vaguely annoyed; I've had bad experiences with so-called Wiccans too.
6. Not bothered.

Abortian pride? Women who had abortians are proud of it? Proud that they wanted to avoid a pregnancy, but didn't want to practice safe sex? The other ones are fine. But abortian pride? Anyone proud of killing off what could have been a person because they didn't practice safe sex can't possibly be one of the saner (or safer) people. Yikes. Plus, you can't abort AIDS or herpes or whathaveyou. I can understand pride in safe sex. Although it doesn't require anywhere near the willpower of absainance, it is still something to ba proud of.

while this relates more to the other thread, it is important to note, that the specific phrase "white pride" goes beyond simply "oh it's not ok to be proud of being white".

The expression "white pride" has specific historical connotations that suggest something far, FAR more than simply being proud. It is a phrase of subjugation, racism, klan histories, and as such carries a significant amount of baggage. It has a meaning that transcends its literal words.

None of these do.

Um. Many women who seek abortions were having safe sex. Contraception is not 100% effective.

Contrary to your implications, a woman who has had an abortion does not have anything to be ashamed about.

Given the attitude of people like you that try to make women ashamed of abortions, it actually makes some sense to show Abortion Pride.
