You know, if you just bought tickets to a free concert, I have to question your sanity...

Still, I agree that the BBC is superb.

The only tickets I ever get are parking tickets. :(

Yay for you, though.

Didn't buy them silly. :)

Registered for the draw (for free) and got me FREE tickets for the Saturday - around 500,000 people registered for around 75,000-80,000 tickets - and I got one!!

If a concert is free, why have tickets at all? It seems so superfluous...

[Edit]
I suppose they make sense given the draw thing, but to me it seems simpler just to have someone with a ticker at the door who stops letting people in after the place fills.

So 500,000 people don't show up for a show that can only hold 80,000 people?

The venue is barriered off (for crowd control probably - can you imagine 500,000 people attending a venue intended for 40,000 at a time - you get tickets to one of the days).

And if you don't have tickets how do you know who has won and is allowed in?

This is a big event.

Again the crowd control thing - can you imagine 500,000 people queing to get in- how calm would the first people to be denied entry be?

Well, folks could be admitted in groups- Say ten get let in at each gate every minute or so. When it is getting near to the limit, announce that only a few more groups are being permitted, and when it reaches 40000 just close the doors.
I must admit, winning a ticket is more fun than waiting in line for hours to ensure entrance. Still, I am sure that it would be theoretically possible to do the concert without them.

460,000 people having travelled, sometimes hundreds of miles and at great expense, to see a concert

being refused entry

Not a pretty sight

I guess that depends on how you define 'pretty'.

I'd pay to see that. :)

Having looked at the line-up, I have to ask...

Why? Apart from MIA and Biffy Clyro, who's playing that you want to see?

There are a few bands I wouldn't mind seeing; Kaiser Chiefs, Mika, Razorlight and the Scissor Sisters.

I haven't a clue who most of the rest of the bands are, though.

I dunno, Stalin. Stereophonics and Fratellis are worth a look. However, they will be swamped by the general crappiness. Always the way with these things.

Also: Preston?!!

They should've got the Manics. Then it'd be worth the admission fee. ;)

Also...Phil...Mika?! :(

Do you mean 'why Preston?' or 'where the hell is Preston?'

well i would say that anyone that travels hundreds of miles at a great expense to go to a concert, especially a free concert is just bonkers in the first place.

i guess i never got into being a fanatic follower of anything.

I like Mika. I wouldn't leave my children with him, but his music is fun. :p
