The Kool-Aid Pickle

It may be the most disgusting sounding thing in cuisine since the hamdog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamdog). And that means it's worthy of inclusion in the Food section of the NY Times.

The Kool-Aid Dill pickle. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/09kool.html)

Those pickles were once mere dills. They were once green. Their exteriors remain pebbly, a reminder that long ago they began their lives on a farm, on the ground, as cucumbers.

But they now have an arresting color that combines green and garnet, and a bracing sour-sweet taste that they owe to a long marinade in cherry or tropical fruit or strawberry Kool-Aid.

Kool-Aid pickles violate tradition, maybe even propriety. Depending on your palate and perspective, they are either the worst thing to happen to pickles since plastic brining barrels or a brave new taste sensation to be celebrated.
The real question is--would you eat one?

Couldn't be much worse than dill pickles or as bad as sweet gherkins.

yep i would eat one.

so are the pickled in vinegar first and then soaked in cool aid?

cuz i've heard that strawberry, cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches are rather yummy, so the strawberry coolaid version may be too. but not with vinegar. would still try them though.

There is something wrong with a red pickle. its unappealing to me.

And Kool Aid gave me a headache at a birthday party as a kid-I've never had it since.

Could I eat one? Sure. I wouldnt want to though.

The Hamdog is a hot dog wrapped in a beef patty that is deep fried, covered with bacon, chili, cheese and onions, and served with fries on a hoagie bun topped with a fried egg.
Hey, I think that is the Hardee's Monster Breakfast Biscuit.

I cant believe I never heard of the "Hamdog" before.

I thought deep fried Twinkies were bad- My cholesterol went up a few points just reading that description.

Yo ushould get a little card when you order those-After you get the card punched out 13 times, you get a discount at a cardiologist.

It could be-I'm wondering if it will taste similar to that irridescent red sauce that comes with Sweet & Sour Chicken?

That sounds awful...
Why mess with a good thing?

I suppose they might, MIGHT, be healthier than many other snack foods, though. Still... Why not simply eat a real pickle?

You ought to check out the Luther Burger. Here's a hint--Krispie Kreme donuts as the bun.

Yikes! I just checked that on Wiki. I'm more of a burger purist-I like the cheeseburger in paradise- pickles/lettuce/red onion.cheese/bacon/ketchup & mustard-but not much else.
I usually only eat burgers at home or at family/friends. I try not to eat ground beef out at restaurants.

and the donuts as buns dont appeal to me.

I've performed a few interesting feats that could be described as Kool-aid Pickles. :D

The real question is--would you eat one?

Nope. I hate pickles and I hate Kool-Aid, so why eat something that combines two foods I hate?
