Statement regarding incident at Bundoora campus
The following statement was issued by Dr Kerry Ferguson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Equity and Student Services) at 13.30pm on 8 May 2007.

I regret to advise that an unfortunate incident has occurred in the Borchardt library at the Bundoora campus of La Trobe University.

A female student in her early twenties has been stabbed. Her family has been notified.

A 23 year old female is assisting police with their enquiries.

La Trobe University invoked emergency response procedures immediately. Security services responded within 2 minutes. Police are currently managing the situation. We must respect the privacy of the student and we are awaiting advice on the condition of the student.

The University is putting in place counselling for staff and students. Our main concern is with the welfare of the student and supporting all members of the University.

We are limited in what we can say. The matter is in the hands of the police and we are co-operating fully with them.

I'm glad that she doesn't seem to be critical.

Wait, what? You've started an entire thread to point out that there is crime in the world?

Is this where I say "See? Can you even imagine how much worse that could have ended had it been a gun instead of a knife?"?

And where others then jump down my throat and say "But if the victim had had a gun, too, can you even imagine how truly spectacularly freedomiffic that would have been?"?

I thought it would be for the best not to bring gun pro/anti discussions so I did not say anything about it. It was a rather shocking crime (the small crimes that do occur are swiping stuff when no one is looking).

I'm glad that she doesn't seem to be critical.

I see that there was a much less serious incident in a school not located in the United States of America.

I have been disillusioned.

Mine eyes are open.

I can see the flameszz!!
