Popular Bands You Hate: Worst Nu Metal Band

Zarakon

In the previous thread, "Popular Bands You Hate: Worst Metal Genre", Nu Metal won by considerably less then I would've guessed, to be honest.

I say Linkin Park. It fails, and it fails hard.

EDIT: I actually voted for Korn. The Last thing we need is another bunch of shock-rock imbeciles. END EDIT

For those of you wondering about the lack of a poll, I realized it's probably better to get a few nominees rather then guessing.

The NSG Wall of Musical Shame:
Nickelback (Worst Alternative Band)
Elvis Presley (Worst Band With Staying Power)
The Entire Genre of Nu Metal

So far the nominees are:
-Linkin Park
-Limp Bizkit
-All of Them (As in, hatred for the entire genre of Nu Metal)
-Also, I nominate Korn. Jesus, do their lyrics suck.
-Slipknot

I'd barely call Linkin Park "Metal." They're terrible, really bad. And I'd vote for them as well.

Linkin Park's bad but certainly not worse than Limp Bizkit. Limp Bizkit were unquestionably one of the worst low-points of music in the '90s.

Though Wes Borland's new band Black Light Burns isn't terrible.

Nu Metal? My brother-in-law calls them the Rage Against the Limp Korn Bizkit bands. So I guess all of them.

With the exception of Mudvayne and Deftones, is there a nu metal band that isn't unlistenably awful?

I vote Slipknot, they're worse then Limp Bizkit, Korn and Linkin Park combined. And that's pretty haggard.

For a lot of the bands mentioned here it really is a matter of love and hate. I know a lot of people who love Korn and Rage Against the Machine. And while I don't particularly like either, I do like Linkin Park. I have their two albums, and I plan to buy the third.

There is, however, NO EXCUSE to like Limp Bizkit...EVAR!

Reanimation was a remix album I believe.

Linkin Park have some decent songs but in general are just OK. The new single annoys me.

Also, I've seen some mention of Rage Against the Machine in this thread. RATM is defintely not nu metal. They're funk/alternative/rock, they do have some rap and metal influences but they preceded nu metal by years.

All of their singles bug me because they all sound the same. I know the actual tracks on the CD's don't, but they seem to pick the same kind of songs to put out as singles EVERY FUCKING TIME.

I don't know much about Nu Metal, but looking at some of the bands in this thread I can tell choosing the worst will be easy. Limp Bizkit automatically takes the prize of worst band in whatever genre it belongs to, simple as that.

That is true, the "Fuck it, we're out of ideas" kind of album.
In defense of musicians in general, remix albums tend to be forced by record labels when a band signs on to produce a certain amount of albums but break up (or die) before fulfilling their "obligations." It happened to Switchblade Symphony, creating the abortion that was Sinister Nostalgia.

...I wouldn't consider Machine Head to be Nu Metal, but I'm not going to freak out about it.

I voted Linkin Park...every video or recording I have seen of them live has demonstrated their vast suckiness. I know local bands in my area with more stage presence. The lead singer (THIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester_Bennington) guy) not only can't stay in tune (to songs he supposedly helped write), he also needs to grow a set of testicles...badly.

RATM and Machine Head aren't nu-metal (and they're both good...maybe because they're both good ;)). Korn made some decent stuff early on, similarly Linkin Park have a couple of good tracks from Hybrid Theory.

But yeah. Limp Bizkit. No question.

I blame the rise of the abomination known as Nu Metal on Beavis and Butt-Head being canceled. The "slow" part of the show, which you could still watch if you were stoned enough, they would criticize all the horrible bands showing up on MTV. Those two ani-morons might not have been good for much, but they were decent arbiters of metal taste. Every time Limp Bizkit or Korn comes on the radio, I hear Beavis in my head, commanding: "This sucks, change it!":upyours:

Rage Against The Machine isn't numetal, and neither are most of the bands on that list.

You can't be serious lumping RATM with those other bands. They're a completely different genre, regardless of whether or not you like them.

To be honest, I don't really mind these bands too much. Linkin Park were my introduction to metal, even if they aren't actually that metal themselves, and some of Slipknot's stuff is OK.

Limp Bizkit is pretty pathetic though, so they get my vote, although I also made the mistake of buying a very bad Korn album.

Me too, but I thought they were way better before being exposed to Electric Wizard, Finntroll, System of a Down, Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica etc.

The two bands that really opened my eyes to metal are Apocalyptica and Sonata Arctica.

They have a few traits that put them in the nu metal genre:
guitar rifts are quite simple and repetitive
angsty lyrics
turntables

That happens in a lot of metal

angsty lyrics

Also very common in metal

turntables

lol! I find that so funny, i'm just picturing the disck jockey trying so hard to be hard over the other 100 band members who are playing as loud as they can.

The poster you are quoting said it wrong. Nu Metal is whiny, not angsty. There's a difference.

Nu Metal is the only metal genre (Other then perhaps thrash) which has a formula for bands to be described as "formulaic" by. And all of the bands are formulaic. (And I am almost certain I am not spelling that right)

Either way Nu Metal as a genre is terrible. I'd vote for any of them as worse band (Except RATM they r gud and I don't see them as nu metal). However, Limp Bizkit gets my vote for being one of the worse groups in music history, not just Nu-Metal.
