Stupid Governments

What's the stupidest, biggest waste of time your government has been involved in lately?

For the Canadian federal government... calling Canada Hockey, the body that governs Team Canada in for questioning over picking Shane Doan for the position of captain on team Canada for saying something that he never said and was twice cleared of any wrong doing.

Probably connecting the two luas lines(luas=stylish tram). It takes all of 15 minutes, at the most, to get from one line to the other.

If you think about it, it was not joining them in the first place, as well as failing to make the city centre routes undergound.

Then there was the port tunnel, that should have been made bigger, and has a limited capacity because it can't cope with the fumes (they didnt want to pay for the system to do it).

The smoking ban - load of wank, putting the nail in the coffin of many a pub and leading to an office of Tobacco regulation. Yet another shower of wankstains looking over peoples shoulders.

The "beef tribunal" which managed to say a lot but fuck all at the same time.

A great deal Mc "poxhead" Dowells so-called anti-crime and anti-gun laws, which actually don't do anything that previous laws didn't cover, but were pushed through with PR for him in his own dublin 4 & 6 constituencies in mind. Likewise his further restrictions on legal firearms done for the same reason, when every skanger is packing a smuggled 9mm of some description.

Trying to privatise CIE/Bus Eireann and the rest. Fucking ideological wankery. We're a tiny country with a population thats equivalent to a plop of piss in the ocean. We don't need or have the room for that kind of crap.

Those poxy excuses for cowsheds down on woodquay in front of Christchurch...About as appropriate to their setting as a roller-disco in a fucking bird sanctuary....

The Aquatic centre...another great advertisment for privatisation...(made a balls of it and now the taxpayer covers their incomptence).....

That'll do for starters...

We fail to build the metro subway lines far out enough to the suburbs to really help.

We get that here, but it's what I expect from a nanny state.

The "beef tribunal" which managed to say a lot but fuck all at the same time.

Our Department of Agriculture isn't really interested in safe food - their mandate is to help producers make money.

Gun laws don't work here either.

Privatization has been a mixed thing here. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - either way, the private company makes a load of cash.

Just to clarify that the Beef thing was about granting of export insurance to certain companies in their dealings with Iraq, who the fuck and why the fuck. (We export a great deal of Halal meat to the middle east.)

Ah, like our Department of Agriculture - set up juicy contracts for producers to make money...

Well, one of my governments has only been in existence for a few hours, so I haven't heard of anything stupid they've done yet. Wouldn't put it past them, though.

The other...well, selling honours in return for money for the party wasn't too smart.

Greetings from Spain
Referendum for a new autonomic bill for Andalucía (the autonomic community down at the south of Spain). Nobody asked for it, nobody cared about it, nobody told us what was on it, and nobody went to vote: It had an abstentions percentage of around 45%. I went, but my vote was blank.

They only did it because Cataluña got a new autonomic bill. :headbang:

Politics in Spain are politics, they're just the Muppets Show.

Or The Serious and Organised Crime and Police Act, parts of it included basically to stop Brian Haw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Haw) from protesting that can't be used because law makers forgot that the new laws can't be applied retroactively.

A lot of people seem to think Iraq is the US governments stupidest, biggest waste of time.

I disagree. That's not to say I don't think it is evil, sick and wrong. I just think that a government that trying to legislate who I am allowed to marry, is a degree of stupid-big-time-wasting to make a mere immoral war look positively well-reasoned and constructive.

I could name 40 things.

Most recently (as in this morning) I am annoyed that the government is making the big change to digital broadcasting....because I have a few TV's that aren't going to work the way they do now in about a year.

They are nice TV's too.

I have to go buy HDTV's to replace them, because the government is involved in areas that IMO are none of their business.

Dunno where he lives but here they are switching all TV broadcasts in the whole country from analog to digital HDTV, except cable which will get both. I agree that it's a waste as digital TV was outdated before they even started with it. The modern way is to stream video via broadband so you can watch whatever you want whenever you want. Bandwidth limits image quality but that will be solved in 5-10 years.

Another huge waste over here is that since the right wing took over they are selling all stock the government owns because they feel it is morally wrong for the government to own private corporations. They aren't going to get anywhere near the same profits from investing the government savings any other way. Moral ideals leads them to make poor bussiness desicions and lose a fortune on it. :(

In Finland raising their own payment by hundreds of euros and giving 5 € raise to pension of common eldery and cutting their supports on living (worth of much more than just 5 €) because of that.

My own excuse for a home state is trying to pass a bill that would forbid strip club patrons from coming within six feet of dancers. This threatens to shut down numerous clubs and damage the economy. Whether or not the governor intends to sign it I have no idea, but the fact is, as repulsive as the strip club industry is, it's good for the economy and it mostly stays out of people's hair unless they go in. Couple that with differently-colored license plates for DUI convicts and sex offenders and I seriously think my state's going straight to hell.
