Renewable at grass roots

Today in the Gazette of my local municipality it was advertised as part of an environment reform that residents are being afforded rebate subsidies up to multiple thousands of dollars in order to implement environmentally friendly household items. Items include installations for solar power for water heater and other things, etc.

My question is, are similar reforms happening in your local areas? Do you agree with them, do you believe reducing green house gas emissions should at least in part come down to private individuals and their household use? As well as business and the public sector? And would you be willing to pay the remainder even if subsidized by the state?

Thanks.

I'm not fond of grass roots. I don't believe we need anymore grass. Grass is stupid, some of my friends are even alergic to grass seed. Unless, of course, you're talking about grass, in which case I say pass the doob.

None that I'm aware of and I'm opposed to such measures. It doesn't matter the cause, government should not be favoring certain products by offering "incentives" to buy them. I'd be willing to set up a stirling engine in the backyard for power but I don't think the government should be getting involved in this sort of thing. Mark my words, it'll just artificially inflate prices and generate huge profits for otherwise uncompetetive enterprises. Just say no to market manipulation.

I agree.

Now, if only our government would pull our naval forces out of the Persian Gulf and stop giving hundreds of billions of dollars in subsidies to oil companies and the Saudi government, we'd be set. Oil industry subsidies are so blatant and so disgraceful that it would probably unleash a gigantic boom in to alternative energy, nuclear, and even coal industries unrivaled by anything we've got now.

i think you can get subsidies for stuff like that, i don't know how recent they are, but i think they are going to increase the subsidies, the environment is hot and there are elections comming. well, at least i hope they'll increase the subsidies and that they also include other things, like subsidies for insulating your house better.

yes, not only reducing greenhouse gasses but also other polution.

As well as business and the public sector?

sure, how can we lower emissions without those?

And would you be willing to pay the remainder even if subsidized by the state?

(i don't really understand that question, why wouldn't anyone pay the remainder because it's subsidized by the state? but i'll answer it anyway)

yes, most of the cost is recovered after some time because you don't have to pay that much for power

Thanks.

no problem
