"How revised is your history?"

From the OKC "Dating Personality" quiz thread:

Oh, yes, while you're taking tests on OKCupid, you as NationStaters might like the "How Revised is Your History?" test.

Just be warned that it's rather tough. One might say evil.

Knowing

You've got a pretty good idea of what's going on. You know what's up, who did it, and when.

Mmmm. Live the revolution, baby.

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:
You scored higher than 99% on enlightenment

I suppose that's good?

And handy, since I'm doing a degree in history.

Oh, and my results came complete with this, erm, "lovely" picture:

As I pointed out in the other thread, the guy can't spell "fascist". Unless he's being revisionist and claiming that Mussolini was primarily concerned with discriminating against people on the basis of their facial appearance.

Pawn
You've been paying some attention in class. Unfortunately, you still have many misconceptions you need to work through...

You are but an unwitting pawn on the board of history.

I feel saddened.

It's a pretty common mispelling. (http://www.google.com/search?q=facism&start=0)

What was your raw score? It goes 0 to 100% IIRC.

I don't know, it didn't give me one. Just the ranking.

Oh, and just because a spelling's common it doesn't mean it gets any less painful to see :P

Err...99%, but I didn't bother to fill out the final page allowing me to be properly compared.

Betcha it's a bug, everybody getting "higher than 99% on enlightenment." Especially with Kyronea a "pawn" and Nadkor "knowing."

After all, I wrote the damn thing back in 2005 or whenever that was.

Just thinking, my result of "knowing" (which, from the description, I assume is fairly good?) is pretty cool when you consider there were a few questions there that were based around obscure (to me) happenings in the US.

It isn't so hard, just dull. And long. So I gave up about 2/3's of the way through and stared picking the options that [i]should[/b] be true, if only we lived in a world that wasn't as dull as this one.
A world in which Mongolia, inspite of being completely landlocked, maintains the greatest navy on Earth.
A world in which the Ninja were a seperate branch of the government in pre-War Japan.
A world of defenstration, a world of puppets, a world in which Ethiopia is conquered every 13 seconds.
Some day, I shall discover how to travel between Universe's, and I shall visit this alterante Earth, and I can only hope it lives up to my expectations.

Yup, that's a pretty good score. There's one more category above it, actually (if you get every single question right) but it goes "knowing" - "puppet" - "pawn" - "blinded".

Oh, and down at the bottom, you might be able to get "deliberately obtuse" if you try.

A world in which Mongolia, in spite of being completely landlocked, maintains the greatest navy on Earth.
A world in which the Ninja were a separate branch of the government in pre-War Japan.
A world of defenestration, a world of puppets, a world in which Ethiopia is conquered every 13 seconds.

I did similar, after about 7-10 questions I just went random as it was a little boring.

Surprisingly, the result stated that, given my answers, I'd have got more if I just went random, which was clearly wrong as I had done just that.

I fail at randomness it seems

Not unlikely :)

EDIT...although, they do give you the answers to the first 5 soooo.....ahhh let's be honest, still not unlikely for me

I'm a Puppet, probably because I was never taught much Chinese history in school, so I ended up guessing on those questions.

I'm a little annoyed that the answers aren't available, after such a long test. A few of the questions I thought might be open to interpretation.

Puppet, but still 99th percentile. This guy needs to understand that while history classes don't always tell the whole truth, they tend to be pretty good about the relevant parts of the truth.

As did I. It also would have been nice to have fewer United States history questions on there (how the heck am I supposed to know if Washington had wooden teeth?). More order in the questioning and the time periods would have been nice instead of 77 completely random questions scrapped together.

I'm a "puppet." I suspect I missed most of the Asian history questions, as I have never studied any Asian history, and thus randomly guessed on them, but I knew the majority of the American and European history questions. (Mostly, I didn't know things which I would consider historically irrelevant - for example, what city Saladin was born in, or what country's battleship spent the greatest part of the 20th century at sea. Quite frankly, who cares?)

school education.. very.. my education ... not as much .. but I still got a lot to learn. School was cut off at math, first aid, english and literature(somewhat) ..after that it's neeh.

What I want to know is WHY do they NOT teach about real things we will endure during our education , during our life that deals with money!!? There should be a class in high school that deals with credit and taxes at least. Teach them how the shit works, how it does not work, how NOT to screw it up, the effects if one screws it up, how it can help you, how it can hurt you.. about credit scores, about the IRS.. when and how to use credit to ones advantage.

The test is about one third obscure trivia (e.g., the battleship one), one third history that people throughout the First World tend to overlook (e.g., the questions about Chinese dynasties - which are on the whole fairly basic), and about one third history that people from the US have been taught the wrong answers to. That last third tends to be focused on US history; the wooden teeth bit relates in particular to a bit of popular US mythology, for example.

Obviously the test is focused for US targets in particular.

Hah! I knew it! No wonder you were so keen on defending "his" mispelling, when it was your own. :p

Nice quiz, though...it really shows knowledge of history, barring the odd spelling error which can be forgiven quite easily.

Thanks.

Ironically, I finally started spelling "fascism" correctly and consistently not too long after I stopped revising that quiz; also ironically, in all the detailed reviews I've gotten on most of the questions over the past two years and change (and that question was in the original version), nobody has pointed out the spelling error.

Ah well. It will go into the next batch of revisions, if there is a next batch.

Blinded

Your life is still rife with deceptions. In darkness you rest.

You are not just not informed, you are misinformed. On average, you would've done better without reading the questions or answers and guessing a random answer for each question. Tear off that blindfold and reach to the light!
