I Have Finally Figured Out What The Politics of Today Are Called

They are not attack or scare politics.

They are grue politics.

Think about it-When Rudolph Giuliani says "If you don't vote for me, the terrorists will attack us" isn't that basically saying "It's dark out. You are likely to be eaten by a grue."?

Is this really anything other than scare politics? Last election here in Australia the government won by scaring the voters about the economic credentials of the opposition leader. They might have had a point, but they used typically cheap scare tactics. The same thing will happen again later this year. In America you have the terrorist fear campaign as you mentioned. It is always about scaring the public that your opponent will be too incompetent as to protect your interests, economic or grue.

Also, I assumed grue was a sort of goblin, and apparently it is mainly remembered from the Zork games. The only Zork game I had was this graphical one: Return to Zork (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_Zork). Man, that game was so fucked.

*beep... beep... krzzztt... /modem noises*

initiating grue test:

"It is dark. You are likely to be eaten by terrorists."

Okay, it passes. However, what can we do? In the event of the grue, we should turn on a light. Some would pretend we have done this by revealing the terrorists. I would say we've turned off every other light we had, including that cigarette.

So, how do we turn on the light to not only scare away the terrorists, but the grue politics too?

It's like Ethnic Jokes. The base formula is the same, but it can be adjusted for current events and prevailing attitudes.

"It is dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue."

"It is quiet. This country is likely to be taken over by communists."

"There is a Democrat in power. This country is likely to be blown up by terrorists."

The difference is that if it is dark, you actually are likely to be eaten by a grue. In fact, you will be eaten by a grue three turns in.
