I think Osama's dead

Another video came out from the "Number 2" Al Qaeda guy Ayman al-Zawahiri. We've had plenty of tapes from him, but none from Osama in awhile. I'm almost convinced he's dead. If he is dead, then may he rest in peace.

CAIRO, Egypt - A new video of al-Qaida's No. 2 leader released on Saturday mocks
President Bush and U.S. legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. troops from
Iraq, saying the bill would rob the group's fighters of the chance to kill more Americans.

Osama bin Laden's deputy Ayman al-Zawahri derided the new U.S.-backed Baghdad security plan, recounting an April 12 suicide bombing in Baghdad's heavily protected Green Zone when an attacker slipped through security and killed a Sunni legislator in the Iraqi parliament's cafeteria. An al-Qaida-led amalgam of Sunni insurgents in Iraq claimed responsibility.

"And lest Bush worry, I congratulate him on the success of his security plan, and I invite him on the occasion for a glass of juice, but in the cafeteria of the Iraqi parliament in the middle of the Green Zone," al-Zawahri said.

The video was obtained Saturday by U.S.-based monitoring groups who released a transcript to media.

Al-Zawahri, shown seated before a bookshelf in a white robe and turban, addresses legislation pushed by Democratic leaders, and vetoed by Bush, that would have required the first U.S. troops in Iraq to be withdrawn by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.

"This bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap," al-Zawahri said, according to a transcript released by the monitoring group SITE. The bill is evidence of American "failure and frustration," he added.

"We ask Allah that they (U.S. troops) only get out of it after losing 200,000 to 300,000 killed, in order that we give the spillers of blood in Washington and Europe an unforgettable lesson," he said.

He made no mention of Bush vetoing the bill on Thursday — an indication the video may have been made beforehand.

Al-Zawahri encouraged minorities around the world to join the holy war, or jihad.

"Al-Qaida is not merely for the benefit of Muslims," he said. "That's why I want blacks in America, people of color, American Indians, Hispanics, and all the weak and oppressed in North and South America, in Africa and Asia, and all over the world."

Al-Zawahri claimed al-Qaida fighters in Iraq were "nearing closer to victory over their enemy, despite this sectarian fighting" that has convulsed the country.

He discussed other topics as well in the 67-minute video, including fighting in
Afghanistan,
Chechnya, Algeria, and Somalia. He made references to Saudi Arabia, Egyptian constitutional changes meant to cement the government's hold on power, and the
Pentagon's release of the confessions of al-Qaida No. 3, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — the alleged Sept. 11 mastermind who was captured in Pakistan in March 2003.

Saturday's video was the fifth message — including posted video and audio tapes — by al-Zawahri this year. Osama bin Laden has not surfaced in any communications since mid-2006.

Maybe it's an evil Al-Qaeda conspiracy to lull us into a false sense of security. He is possibly dead, I suppose, but I'd need more evidence than just that he didn't show up for a year or so.

I have a feeling AQ would probably make it public if he died. The whole "died peacefully and surrounded by friends even though the Americans were trying so hard to kill him", or "martyr died for our cause" or "went to join Mohammed in heaven" thing might be too much.

That being said, I think he's probably not feeling too well. I heard he had kidney problems and there may not be that many good doctors in the border regions, so Zawahiri took over the day to day operations.

Fuck. Can you imagine how awesome a book about that would be? Osama splits from the Middle East after having a change of heart. He still hates the American government, but feels some sort of humanity, and feels compassion for all citizens of the west. So he shaves his beard and heads off to England. He struggles to find work as a result of the prejudices towards Arab and Muslim men, for which he was one of the main causes, which upsets him greatly. Because of this, he goes on a drinking binge. One night in the back alley behind a pub an old dieing homeless man gives him some juggling pins, and tells him to get on the straight and narrow; not to die alone in the gutter like him. Osama sobers up and starts juggling. Pretty soon he is an expert and travels around Europe juggling various, dangerous objects for crowds of hundreds. Everywhere he goes he takes his new message of multiculturalism and peace between religions. In each new town he shows up in he also helps out local youth. But he is also constantly attacked by racist, evil men and other jugglers, jealous of his skill, so he always creates a fantastic plan that saves his own life without killing anybody else, and teaches a lesson in the process.

Scrap the book; that would be an awesome TV show like MacGyver mixed with Kung Fu. I'm off to write a proposal to the ABC.

I don't buy the martyr argument. When ever you see protests, etc. They have his photo and not Al-Q stuff. Just like the shrub doesn't want to admit his death. They way the Americans think "We got the bad guy time to go home!"

You don't exactly hear Palistinians rushing to join Hamas because yassin was martyred.....

anyway blah blah blah.....

I think he's probably in a nice little house in the outskirts of Quetta, if you ask me. Or with some tribal chief in Waziristan or the Frontier region.

He's got enough friends there to not have to spend his time in a cave.

Egghiccup;12615965']Maybe he gained the forgiveness of his family and is now enjoying a cup of tea with his old freind George W Bush (the Bin Ladens were the only people flying over America after 11/09)

That is a myth contorted from the truth. Their family arranged for a private charter plane to fly them out of the US when airports reopened. They did not receive preferential treatment, rather, were removed from the US by their own family in order to secure their own personal safety.

Egghiccup;12615981']The Bushes are freinds with the Saudi Bin Ladens. Usama is their errant nutjob. here is the first logical leap, what does the precedent have to do with the antecedent? The Saudi royal family call G W Bush "shrub". Once again, a near total disconnect of statements. What does the P have to do with the A? Bush is a weak wheel on the vehicle of the New World Order.

While I don't necessarily disagree with any of the individual statements in your post, they don't seem to add up to a coherent argument.

That theory has been around for years and why didn't he get "captured" in October 2004 or 2006 at the perfect time.

good lord what scandal would be scandalous enough? has NOTHING in the past 6 years been bad enough to be "osama worthy"? would someone have to have pictures of bush blowing cheney in the lincoln bedroom?
