Mr Lucas told the Celebration III convention the live action TV series would be similar to Raiders of the Lost Ark spin-off The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

"Like on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, we want to write all the stories for the entire first season all at once," he said.

Star Wars creator George Lucas said the sixth film would be the last
"I'm going to get it started, and hire the show runners and all of that, then I'll probably step away."

He said the live action series would feature stories taking place between movie episodes three and four - Revenge of the Sith and the original 1977 Star Wars movie.

So, who's excited? According to the Wiki and Wookie Pedias it's set for 2009.

I don't think he actually understands what made his first films so enjoyable. He doesn't even understand the importance of his original decision to have Han Solo fire first.

As such, I don't know that he can be trusted anymore with his own creation. I'll watch it, because I'm an all day sucker, but excited does not describe how I feel about it.

I think he said on Conan O'Brien last week that it would now be an animated series.

It's acually going to be both. Lucas is launching two series', this one and the animated (computer generated) one.

Computer generated? Ugh...I was hoping it would be like the Clone Wars cartoons. Seriously, the guys sense of style faded with the color of his beard...

From what I heard the computer generated one is going to be a new series of Clone Wars.

The 7 year old in me that saw the original films as they came out says "why is he a shithead now?".

Star wars = toys&burger tie-ins. =/= anything worth bothering about anymore.

I know what you mean. I went & saw the three new films, but after the first one I knew they were going to be crap. It's because I enjoyed the first ones so much, I really wanted the new ones to be good. You'll watch the cartoon hoping it will good, but you just know it won't be.

George Lucas is not aging gracefully at all.

You are right you know. He has completely lost the plot. Notwithstanding the utter craptitude of the last movies the idea of a TV series, let alone an animated series, just leaves me cold. It will be sanitized rubbish.

No one who has any real sense of taste gives a damn. This series will be even worse than the movies.

I was disappointed when I heard that the new animated series was gonna be bad- mainly because if it's CG, doesn't that mean the makers of clone wars (Tartakovsky and co) won't be there? and he and his team are my favourite contemporary cartoon makers going, at the moment, so I think it's gonna be a lot lesser (they done powerpuff girls, samurai Jack, and Dexters lab, if you're not familiar with his name). Plus, just the fact it's CG means it won't have the style of the 2 clone wars series. Bit of a shame to be honest.

As for the TV show, I have no idea how that's gonna turn out. I'd say cautious optimism, but then, I'm reminded of a certain Penny Arcade comic relating to cautious optimism. I'm hoping they don't take a completely 2d look at the politics, and be all "EEEEVIL EMPARGH vs virtuous rebels. I'd rather we added some depth to that struggle and remembered that the rebels were not -everyones- good guys.

You know what I'd like to see? A farce comedy. Sort of a 'Get Smart' meets 'Star Wars'. Starring me.

I think it could be a hit. *nod*

Now that I would watch, most definitely...so long as you were also head writer. ;)
