More Brilliance from the GOP

Normally I try to avoid making political threads, but after reading this in a news article about the recent GOP presidential candidate debate at the Regan Library:

The field split on another issue, with Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo raising their hands when asked who did not believe in evolution.

All I can do as ask my fellow American NSG'ers who are registered Republicans to PLEASE make sure one of those three don't end up as the candidate. The US is already getting laughed at enough about this as is.

So, what do you think? Is it a damn shame that people this idiotic can be considered serious contenders for the presidency, or just good working proof that anyone, no matter who, can grow up to be president in the US?

*delurks*

I forget who said it, but...

"When I was a child, I was told anyone could be President. I'm beginning to believe it."

Oh, you can bet I will do whatever it takes to ensure my crappass of a Representative Tom Tancredo will NEVER get the nomination. NEVER! NEVAAAAR!

...

As you can see, I despise him quite a lot. He is my literal anti-thesis.

Maybe there should be some sort of compulsory professional IQ test and knowledge tests made mandatory for anyone to become a politician. It's obvious the US is getting more and more village idiots running for office.

Not nearly enough, NERVUN. Not nearly enough.

Don't worry: It will be Romney or Giuliani...Giuliani is pro-choice and Romney was the governor of Massachusetts, so there's not much worry about the R's marching to the right in 2008. It's going to be candidates from the center.

We'll see. If the Republicans want to have a prayer of winning the general election, then they'll need a moderate. But the Republican's most faithful (if you'll pardon the expression) constituency is the religious right, and they're not going to go for a moderate. Can either Rudy or Romney zig far enough to the right to get the nomination, and then zag far enough back to the center to win an election in a nation that has had just about enough of the far right for the moment? I'll be surprised if they can pull it off.
