Ok, so when I got up this morning, got my milk poured and cereal made, I sat down at the table and started reading the newspaper. I opened it up to the comic section, and I just saw the world's funniest comic, it was just so good that I just had to share it with you guys.

Not sure it's the best ever, but it has a certain charm...

I saw it years ago (so long ago that the gag was still fairly original) and it has stuck in my mind ever since.

Innumerable Calvin & Hobbes strips crack me up, especially ones involving Calvin’s Dad, but xkcd has got to get a mention.

Expecially this strip (http://www.xkcd.com/c123.html).

I don't think I could find it anymore, but there was a political cartoon done by the Mother Goose and Grimm artist that appeared shortly after it was revealed that the 9/11 hijackers were trained in U.S. flight schools.

It was a picture of a fighter-jet dropping a bomb into a terrorist stronghold with the caption "Oh No! He was trained in a US flight school too!"

Hilarious at the time. Really just kinda memorable now.

*edit* Calvin and Hobbes FTW!

You know this (http://www.drinkatwork.com/2005/06/comic-for-friday-june-17-2005.html) probably would've increased Archie's readership.

...ever?

Probably The Far Side. I'm not sure if it counts as a "strip", though. And there aren't many examples floating around on the 'net, which is why I'm not providing one.

I think, thus far, the DMFA comic and the Calvin and Hobbes Snowman Suicide strip have made me truly laugh.

Oh, and the one with the exam that got fucked.

FTW.

Bloom County got me through the 80s. Easily some of the most consistently funny observational and political humor ever drawn.

I dunno about specific strips, because it's hard to judge how funny they will be on the first read after having seen them before, but for webcomics, I think the best are

Dinosaur Comics (http://www.qwantz.com)
White Ninja (http://www.whiteninjacomics.com)
xkcd (http://xkcd.com)

The Far Side is pretty damn unbeatable. I can't even remember all my favourite ones. This is one of them, though, and it's the only one I still actually have on paper: (click it, it's a thumbnail)

Apart from that, it's Calvin & Hobbes all the way. Some of my all-time faves, painstakingly (and I mean painstakingly, with all of 256mb RAM...) scanned for your enjoyment: :) (Click them, duh!)

This one Dilbert comic where Dilbert's walking along with a date.

Date: I hope to get a good base tan before I go on vacation, so I won't sunburn.
Dilbert: Base tans don't provide any protection.
Date: Wanna bet?
Dilbert: Okay.
Date: Loser has to jump into that pond.
Dilbert: Okay, let's check my pocket PC, and...A base tan provides only negligible SPF 4 protection.
Date: I'm not jumping into that freezing pond.
*Dilbert shoves her into the pond*
Dilbert: You were already ignorant and contentious, and I didn't want you to be a welcher too.

Or something like that.
