Iranian government to release strategy game

Apparently the Iranian government is releasing a strategy game called "Save the Port" (that's a pretty lame title IMHO)

The Taliya news is today announcing that the Multimedia Office of Tebyan (in Iran) has finished putting the finishing touches on "Save the Port" -- a video game designed to "counter the West's cultural onslaught [...] in order to promote the Islamic-Iranian culture".

Save the Port is apparently a strategy game -- though fans expecting an Iranian version of Starcraft might be disappointed to learn that its designers have endeavored to replace the 'excessive amount' of aggression seen in strategic Western games with rational thinking 'as much as possible' (a quality seen as a great plus in the minds of the Iranians). According to the article, the quality and options of "Save the Port" are quite comparable -- even superior -- to its foreign lookalikes.

Its existence represents the first officially sanctioned form of computer entertainment in Iran

Looks kinda interesting...I'd play it, just to get like a different perspective on stuff...I guess....

The second title to be released by the Iranian government is "Goat Herder Xtreme."

I'd play it. Goatherding can be maddeningly difficult, and I like to punish myself with difficult games. :) Goats are a thousand times more stubborn and likely to wander off than sheep. Could get tricky.

However, didn't Iran try to outlaw chess a while back? Maybe that was a rumor, but I recall them being anti-gaming in general.

Absolutely. It sounds like fun, although I wasn't able to find screenshots anywhere.

Actually I would not only play it; I'd pirate the game, thus damaging the Iranian economy, and killing two flies at one blow, so to speak.

That's what we say around here. I suddenly forgot all English idioms that would fit the situation, and had to go with that one.

I plan on downloading and/or purchasing an English version if one becomes available. This sounds quite interesting...I especially like the rational thinking bit.

To tell the truth, I like a certain level of rational thought in my games. Assuming it's good, I'll gladly pirate it (I won't support the current Iranian government by buying the game). If by the time it comes out, the moderates are back in power, I'll buy it.

No, I have the feeling that:

A) It would probably not be shipped to Aus

B) ASIO might want to have a few 'words' with me if I did obtain a copy.

It doesn't sound as bad as the hezbollah game, so that is good.

I'd play it. Goatherding can be maddeningly difficult, and I like to punish myself with difficult games. :) Goats are a thousand times more stubborn and likely to wander off than sheep. Could get tricky.

Don't forget you have to make special preparations for nightfall so that a certain southern Sudanese guy doesn't 'experiment' with them.
