Is it OK to like the Arctic Monkeys if you don't live in Britain?

Well, is it? I've always loved their stuff, and the new album is great. However, here in the US, two people I know listen to them, while they are overhyped in Britain.
Is it OK?

It's not OK to like them even in Britain, so I don't see why it should be more acceptable outwith the quarantine zone.

your musical taste is your own. to let other people influence you in that is stupid.

i think it's because they became popular, so obviously all the 'indy' kids must now disown them or else lose their 'cool'.

Depends how alternative you are I guess. If you are the ultra underground indie alternative kinda guy living in England then you're probably not allowed to like a band after it's "sold out" by not playing shows in the back garden to your school friends and moving onto small pub gigs.

Yeah, didn't think about that.
But of course I absolutely despise that kind of thinking so eh. :p

well i'm proud to say i always liked them somewhat. never bought the album though, i'll probably nick it off one of my friends eventually. one of my friends gets all of the semi-mainstream 'indy' albums.

They're over publicised, over hyped, passably talented, largely banal band wagon bastards. Try listening to something before they've been played on Radio 1.

I really love the overzealous Arctic Monkeys hating. It smacks of faux non-conformism. If you like the band then fuck everyone else, they're just being sheep. You can hate the band all you like as well but telling everyone about it for obvious social me-too-ism is just pointless.
Personally I love them, although it's partly because I saw them at Leeds 2005 and thought they were pretty fucking great tbh. I still love them now, although I don't share the feeling of my flatmates that this album's better than the first.

The Arctic Monkeys are a good band....just obviously not to the taste of everyone. In Britain they are overrated but so are most bands, whether in the U.K., America or any other country. I personally feel they are very good but not the "classic" band that some are making them out to be but they do have the potential to make it that far.
Either way its difficulty for people to judge a band if they do not like the genre they play. Don't listen to the "non-conformists" who hate bands who do well but then all buy the same things as each other anyway.

I like them personally. They remind me of some of the 80's bands coming out of the UK.
a lot of my friends like them, i listened to their new CD with one of my friends in the car, and i didn't like it. My friend also said he liked their first album better. It's all fine, why do you even care?

hmm, Berlin is rather cool actually. (or at least it used to be a few years ago)
They're alright but rather bleh overall.
