I realise it's a silly question, but those always seem to lead to the most interesting things here on NSG.

Suppose you saved a magical fairie from a painful death and s/he provided you with the choice to have either wings or a tail, what would you choose?

You get to decide for yourself what kind of tail/wings it would be.

I'd go for a tail, a beautiful slim long tail that allows me to lift myself up on things and open the fridge without moving from the couch.
And I'd hang a little decorative ribbon on the end of it.

How cool would it be to be able to fly?

Wings would be really inconvenient to have under a t-shirt or shirt, whereas you could let a tail hang out the back of your trousers.

I'm going for a tail, preferably a long swishy one that I can use to clout people with.

I'm not sure about colour... Black, dark green and red are all tempting.

Flight would indeed kick ass. But, wings could easily be rendered useless considering the 'fighting weight' you'd have to maintain, not to mention the endurance to hold yourself in flight, etc. If you didn't keep up with that, let yourself get a little pudgy and out of shape now you just have appendages that make getting on buses a hassle-and humiliating because everyone knows that the reason you're on the bus and not flying is because you eat too many cheeseburgers.

The tail doesn't have that problem, and it can help keep you from falling over.

I wanna fly! Definitely wings. Grey ones, big enough to keep me airborne, but either retractable or small enough to keep concealed.

I dunno man, a prehensile tail has...uses.

I can fly business class if I have to. Besides, if I can't carry anyone, wings would be of little assitance, and if I could, they'd be way to big to be useful.

Or a pair of bright red, flaming ones, provided the fire doesn't emit heat and doesn't make things around catch fire too.

Or a pair like the ones of that nifty archangel in Diablo II, similar to light tentacles.

Or raven black, feathered wings.

And you Eraeya, should have wings too ;)

You would probably not be able to fly. That requires some huge muscular changes or a rocket engine in your bottom or quite big wings - which are impractical when not in the air.
Gliding would be achievable though.

Yes, wings do have more aesthetical possibilities to it, but that's why my tail would have a ribbon!

the ability to fly has been something of a recurring daydream for me throughout my life. but a prehensile tale would be quality. hmmm... decisions..! i have to say a prehensile tail would be my choice, there's so many possible uses for one of those.. :) whereas flying (or at least gliding) can be acheived with a few simple materials and some air currents (or just leaping out of an aeroplane). aso i've done all that, but i've never had a prehensile tale. so, tail it is :)

Tail. Any set of wings big enough to allow my 260 pound ass to fly would be ridiculously inconvenient. Then again, I probably couldn't get a tail capable of lifting me either, but at least that still has some usage.

And I´m pretty sure if you used a suit designed to fly, plus wings, you could fly.

Ooh, tough choice. I'd probably go with the wings if and only if their specifications can include such features as "retractable (without making me a hunchback)" and "magically able to support a human being without being insanely large." If so, I'd go with lovely iridescent dragonfly-wings.

If not, goodness knows a prehensile tail would often come in very handy indeed.

We birdcats already have both. And I'm not parting with either. My tail is long and luxurious (rather like my whiskers) and my wings are nice and feathery. Both black, of course, though other parts of my fur have a bit of white.

you cant trust a fairy. ask for wings and it will give you bat wings--ugly leathery bat wings with no arms. ask for a tail and BAM! you get a rat's tail. *shudder*

Wings, any day. Awesome huge feathery ones probably (never been too much of a fan of scaly/leathery ones for some reason). Just for the effect really - flying would be crazy awesome, they'd look majorly badass when you flex them and so forth. Of course getting suits fitted would be a bitch, but ah well. I'd take that expense.

Wings deffinately! I was wearing both last haloween, and wings are good for keeping you warm, and getting to the bar first (think small female oh poor me cant reach the bar routine, also good for free drinks).

Tails are a menage! People keep pulling them and playing with them, and you accidentally hit people with them.

And with wings you could fly and it would look FANTASTIC with a corset!

a tail, without a doubt, and not a semiuseless fuzzy tail either, I'm thinking something a bit more like an andilate tail, ya know, wit a blade on the end. Great for yardwork.
