Wow, I don't think you can even get water hot enough to cause severe burns out of the faucet straight.
My bath faucet can definitely spout water hot enough to burn someone. I mindlessly turned it on and left it towards hot then jumped right in without checking it first and got burned pretty bad.

I have to wonder whether this was a matter of an unfortunate accident followed by panicked irresponsibility for fear of being found culpable or whether there was intent to harm. I lean toward the former, as it seems like there are so many less complicated, more plausibly deniable ways that they could have gone about it.

I have a very hard time believing it was an accident. You don't just fill the tub and toss someone in. We all check and recheck the water for ourselves, and this was done with her caretaker in the room, who has surely bathed the kid before...

Damn...what absolutely terrible series of events.
Maybe they thought they'd get in trouble if they sought proper medical attention for her or maybe they were just ignorant.

How utterly appalling. I am dreadfully and terribly sad to think of the end that befell that poor unfortunate child at the hands of the person who should care for her the most.
I am crying now and I would like the two of those assholes to be forced into scalding water on a daily basis until they died.
