Huge Signatures: The Vote

It was thought of in those few seconds between clicking 'submit poll' and it actually appearing.

So stop sitting on the fence before you get a sore backside. :p

I neither love nor hate them. They evoke no strong emotion in me, either way. I wouldn't say "I don't care", either - because I am a little interested in what they might have to say.

It's been pointed out already - even with 'big fonts' these 'big signatures' of which you speak still take up less space than many 'normal' text sigs - so it's just the big letters that are offending some people.

Which is funny - because it means you have 'bought in' to the product. You looked at what was there to make you look. You are the person saying "I hate Doritos ads" as you write a letter to the TV company detailing what exactly it is about the 19th Dorito ad in a row, that has offended you.

Huge text is a waste of screen. All the black pixels will run out!
Long sigs in tiny text rarely get read right through.
Really pretty colours in a sig usually mean female poster. They're also more likely to have a quote.

I'm not complaining about any of it, since I imagine my habit of changing my sig every few days probably irks a few people. I won't throw the first stone.

Actually, the idea that someone will write something, others will see it and I won't, is far worse than having to see what they wrote. I don't believe in censorship (at all) and I'd have to be daft to censor my own input.

I don't hate anyone so much I can't bear to read them. At least not yet :(

A /hide function would be an even more horrific device. If people could hide their own posts from specific other users, I would simply not use the forum.

Hang on ... wouldn't it be nice if you could ignore sigs on a per-user basis? People could have huge sigs, anyone who got sick of them could just not see that particular sig. Would have to be in the vBulletin software of course ... hmm.

I don't really seek to find out people's gender. It's a little more convenient to be able to use the right personal pronoun, but I actually find individuals less interesting when they have a gender. It's easier to characterize them.

Yeah, but sometimes it's difficult not to find out. For example, I always used to think Ifreann was a girl, no idea why, until the 'toast an NSer' thread and someone pointed out that I'd used 'she' when he was, in fact, a 'he'.

Also, about your sig: That would still leave you reciting one hundred million digits of pi, assuming you were using the American, or more rightly (as I'm British and old-fashioned :D) reciting one hundred thousand million digits.
In comparison, I can remember 53, down from 80 (fairly obviously, I forgot 27).

Surely you know that the 'Big-Sig Liberation Front' will thwart your plans? I hear that they plan to infect the computers of all those against with the 'Jolt Server' virus. This will cause your computer to crash 97% of the times you attempt to start it up. Furthermore, in all your documents paragraphs will periodically rearrange themselves into a completely irrational order. Your cursor will be replaced with the mp5 icon, and, for users of Microsoft programs, the office assistant will be replaced by MTAE, who, instead of offering useful help, will repeatedly state how low an IQ you have, and how you should really be his slave. Do you have other identities? At little more than half a post a day, you'd have to make each one count to make anyone bear a grudge :p

I ask myself: wtf with the maths? Did I get the evil eye from that picture of Einstein? It's really outa nowhere, haven't done the stuff in years.

I'd sig that but I have nowhere near enough room, even if the 8 line limit was taken away, sigs are limited to 1000 characters too, which I'm very close to.

No flowers for you then! :p

Words, or flowers. You have to choose.
Chocolates are always an option, too, and go with either.

TO ANYONE WHO WANTS THE FLOWER: hit the quote button, then you can cut-and-paste it from inside the edit box. Use back (or another tab if your browser isn't stone-age) and paste it where you want it.

*has dirty thought* No!
Flowers are just nice.

Happy voting!

Sounds like a bad thing overall, though I'd have MTAE over the Office "Assistant."
What, you haven't caught the little blighter stealing, yet? Watch very closely as he animates past anything you typed in. Count the letters. He does it I tell you.

I feel pretty bad about critiquing OD's Venezuela/Nationalisation thread up to the point I had to go to bed, saying I'd be back, but coming and doing this instead.

Oh, never mind. I'll spend a few hours making flowers.

That's the kind of guy I am. Lose it and beat the crap out of people who haven't actually done me a pfshaw of harm, then next day it's all "sorry, sorry, how could I do such a thing" and flowers. And could I perhaps borrow the car?

I said that as a joke, then I read it. Shit. Everyone should be glad there's lots of different types of pipe thingies between them and me.
Except you, Neu Leonstein! You're only 1 stolen car, 1 self-administered driving lesson, twenty speed traps, one stolen tank of petrol and eight hours away! And I know how you live! ;)

I have a strong urge to make a bunny out of Urdu Unicode and use the sniper on it ... I'm examining that urge right now. It would take about 4 hours, since I don't know Urdu and will have to insert just about every character of their pretty font into every possible position of the calicivirus-ridden feral pest until it looks anything like a cute bunny.

It'll be worth it though, when I get out that :sniper:

Nothing will stop me now!!! MWWWArrrHA*cough*Haa*cough, splutter* Ugh.

Not my problem.

Kinda is, not much point making a joke when it was already made a few pages ago.

We've all seen them. "There is no..." this. "I have a big signature" that.

Does anyone actually like them, or are people simply jumping on the bandwagon?

There is no big signature bandwagon.

There is no bandwagon. Nowadays we only have floats, which are much more challenging to jump onto. Unless you use a vaulting-pole and get into some serious chicken-wire, you just go right through, looking incredibly stupid and making a pathetically small hole in the carapace.
No-one even gets to witness your agony as one of the back wheels artfully hidden beneath the float gives you an express abdominal purge. It's all covered by the silly flapping float stuff. And the band plays on.

Ah, bandwagons. The good ol' days.
And that, folks, really is that. This is my masterpiece, the pinnacle of my work here at NSG, the Pièce de fucking résistance. A wonder to inspire generations of NSGers through the lonely hours of ...
Uh, what? Of, of ... well, until I read it again and delete it.

*punches tuba player off bandwagon, puts lips to tuba and attempts to lead crowd in rousing rendition of "Aule Lang Syne" but can only remember the bit that goes "my dear"*

An embarrassed silence. The wheels grind on. You notice the smell of diesel smoke.

Half a post a day? Cooooooool :)

It didn't help that the forum issues led to me being able to log on for eight months though...

where's the "don't care"-option?

This always makes me laugh. Why vote on a poll just to say "don't care?" If you don't care, don't vote.

Or put you and your sig on /ignore :fluffle:

Whatever floats people's collective boats. It seems most likely that - if we are debating the ongoing presence of these 'eyesore' sigs... people aren't actually iggying anything, yes?

Damnit... should've read the post. I thought you meant sigs with lots of content, not just large fonts...

Gravey, I'm not sure it's possible to have a collective boat? Even were it possible, and more than one collective boat could actually be produced, the idea that they would ALL float is mind-bogglingly remote. The parable of Noah is instructive.

I imagine you don't like being called Gravey. I don't like you sigging the immortal words of Our Spike without attribution! Grrr.
I hope the context makes it plain that I couldn't possibly be serious. Ever. Again.

Noah's problem was the 'one big boat' paradox. If he'd only thought to allow everyone a little boat to float in, it would have been all good.

As for the Gravey thing, one of our current crop of lurkers has a habit of calling me Uncle Gravy, whenever she brightens my day by condescending to talk to me. It's not so bad, really. :)

Kudos on the Spike. It's by way of something of a test, hence the non-attributiveness-ness.

Oh, it's a test! I'm not even sure I passed, but I point to the second para of my earlier post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12605167&postcount=75) to show that I learnt something from that goon. Graphic and unfunny interludes make the actual jokes funnier, ala "tank trauma."
I'm thinking that for a good mark, I probably should have countered with an homage of my own, in sig. Oh well. :)
"In sign if I can't." Why do I notice things like this? That's the raw material of the worst pun ever made, right there. I choose not to make it.
You could claim disattribution. Nice word that, just learnt it while looking for non-attributiveness-ness. I stopped looking because my head is spinning with the possibilities offered by the punbot. (http://wordnavigator.com/change-letter/disattribution/) Those fools would use such a brilliant tool to solve crosswords? Talk about thinking small.

Thanks for kudos. Here's a long word for you:
