Pat Buchanan's explanation of VT massacre

Dishonorable Scum

Well, trust Pat Buchanan to figure it all out. He's explained the REAL reason the Virginia Tech massacre happened:
Almost no attention has been paid to the fact that Cho Seung-Hui was not an American at all, but an immigrant, an alien. Had this deranged young man who secretly hated us never come here, 32 people would heading home from Blacksburg for summer vacation.

What was Cho doing here? How did he get in?

Cho was among the 864,000 Koreans here as a result of the Immigration Act of 1965, which threw the nation's doors open to the greatest invasion in history, an invasion opposed by a majority of our people. Thirty-six million, almost all from countries whose peoples have never fully assimilated in any Western country, now live in our midst.

Cho was one of them.
Full ignorant rant: http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20070501/cm_uc_crpbux/op_332611;_ylt=AnYKEkUa9Nzm3tYOW9rhyCb9wxIF

Yes, it's all because Cho was a Korean immigrant. Because good, old-fashioned American white people never go on insane rampages and shoot random strangers.

Out of curiosity, I wonder how Buchanan's Irish Catholic ancestors got here. After all, the invasion of America by hordes of non-Anglo-Saxon Catholics who had never fully assimilated into any Protestant Germanic Western country was opposed by the majority of Americans at the time it was happening. If Buchanan had his way, he wouldn't be here either.

Hm, interesting, but it does raise an important question: If the Mexicans gain the power to get in because they're in league with Satan, who are the Koreans in league with?
Because Jesus only works with white guys, as we all know.

Buchanan is an aging jackass who needs to be told that his story was over a long time ago and it's time for him to learn how to knit and go home.

Meanwhile, in this quote he is bullshitting even himself, because he gets on NBC television at other times and carries on about Cho's mental illness and how unfortunates like him need medical help. But here he takes the cheap shot of using Cho (no mention of any possible mental illnesses) to imply that immigrant = terrorist. What a scumbag.

This is just more of his usual complaint about the undoing in 1965 of the quota system which was replaced by a preference system. Under the older system it was virtually impossible for non-whites (from Asia and Africa for example) to enter the US legally. For example from 1882 when the act was passed until 1943 when it was repealed it was virtually impossible for any Chinese to immigrate to the US. In 1943 the Chinese quota went from zero to 105.

Due to the end of the quote system there has been a drastic increase in immigration from Asia, Latin America and Africa with a decrease in European immigration. One reason for the passage of the law allowing for a Green Card lottery (DV-1 visa) was the feeling by some such as Ted Kennedy that Irish immigrants were unfairly discriminated against by the 1965 reforms. Thus the DV1 program was a way to adjust this.

I think Pat's problem is the 1965 reforms changed drastically the society he was born into. While I oppose illegal entry into the US, legal immigration no matter where they are from should be welcomed.

It is true that if Cho's parents and himself had never been allowed into the US, the VT mass killings wouldn't have happened--but few legal immigrants are known to "shoot up the place." I think it would be wrong to deny legal immigrants the right to buy firearms as well as some have suggested. Many of these immigrants set up shop in pretty rough neighborhoods and aren't exactly welcomed by the "native" population (e.g. the Koreans in LA).

The shootings wouldn't have happened if they had done background checks related to mental issues and/or Cho had been locked up in the looney bin where he belonged--that was the failure--not the 1965 immigration reforms.

The most glaringly ignorant part of Pat's argument is that Cho wasn't "one of them", that is the influx of Korean immigrants that occured from 1965 onwards.

He was born on American soil, and raised in an American culture. He can't even be classified as an immigrant.
