Despite the vague definition of what criteria are needed to turn a weapon into an assault rifle, The Wilmington, NC Public Schools have settled the question of whether or not WMDs were ever in Iraq. The Star-News (http://www.wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070428/NEWS/704280389/1051/NEWS) of Wilmington, N.C., reports that "a 17-year-old Swansboro High School student was in jail Friday on $1 million bond after being charged with having a weapon of mass destruction--an assault rifle--on the school's campus."

If an "assault rifle" is a weapon of mass destruction, it seems likely that Saddam Hussein had them.

Either:

A) That's a fucking stupid way to phrase a law.

or

B) That only would apply to civilians. To expect any army not to carry assault rifles either qualifies as downright stupid, or downright inane.

In precisely what way does an assault rifle destroy mass, anyway?

Well America best get to invading most of the rest of the world. Even the Vatican has WMDs.

Was it really an assault rifle? Or one of those semi-auto clones you can buy in a gun store?

Sheriff's detectives investigating break-ins at a residence on Stella Road uncovered evidence that an AR-15 semiautomatic Colt assault rifle stolen from a home in Carteret County was in a vehicle on the school's campus."

So it's not even an assault rifle?

My point, precisely. The law is being misused. For some reason, burglary doesn't seem to be enough?

Shrub popularized it since accusations of WMD seemed to always get a guilty verdict regardless of factual accuracy.
