Bah. 50 issues? Kids these days! I remember back when we had 30 issues! And they kept repeating..... I received "Corporations Demand Political Say" four times in a row once, for instance.

There were no database errors but it took a damn long time on the old forums to post anything during peak hours.

Anything and everything was posted in General. Word games... homework advice... anything and everything that is now banned or sent to the nether regions of "SPAM".

A lucky person would get a custom forum title.

No kidding. I also tend to laugh at some of what gets not just reported as flaming these days, but warned. Man, you had to be tough in the old days, because some posters would just get personal and creative, especially since to drop f-bombs you really had to work at it.

In early 2003, especially before mods and regional founders, NS was at the other extreme. Personal attacks, spam, the massive "debate" wars that are now but fond memories, and at least one or two people who seemed inordinately fond of posting rather inappropriate pictures. Now, people get upset over small things (as Nazz noted). I suppose this reached an ideal midpoint after the 2004 US elections, after which the forum became progressively mellower. Likely all the rulebreakers got bored, leaving the mods with nothing to do. ;)

I could be getting mixed up with other internet forums I participate in as well, but as far as I remember, that's what shaped my opinion of NS today.

Not at all. I do find it interesting, though, that we're able to drop f-bombs (with rare exceptions) now but the flaming has calmed down. I like some of the pre-emptive action that the mods have taken to head off the problems--the post 2004 election is a good example. It's a far more pleasant place to be now.

Believe you me, I would be quite happy to do so. Unfortunately, Jolt doesn't like people not on their payroll having admin access to their entire forum. And trying to poke them over regular IMPORTANT tasks (such as giving new forum mods their proper access) is like pulling teeth as is. =< Trying to get them to do custom titles would be damn near impossible.

Very loud on GLBT issues, would often go off on long, impassioned rants filled with insults, curse words, and Caps Locks in full effect. And she was given a lot of leeway before she was eventually terminated with extreme prejudice, probably more than she should have been.

She was also known as Labrador, and a half dozen other puppets if I recall correctly. Very loud on GLBT issues, would often go off on long, impassioned rants filled with insults, curse words, and Caps Locks in full effect. And she was given a lot of leeway before she was eventually terminated with extreme prejudice, probably more than she should have been.

I miss the nazis sometimes. They were almost as fun as the people who thought I was a racist due to my agreeing with Parra on a couple of issues.
