Silent dating?

I just heard about "silent dating" today...sounds really interesting! I guess the idea is that people go to this special event where there isn't any noise, you're not supposed to talk, just pass notes and whatnot. I found a lot of information about it in the UK especially...

USA: http://www.quietparty.com/

UK: http://www.smartmobs.com/archive/2003/11/02/silent_dating.html
and http://www.silentdating.com/

Anybody ever tried it or know somebody who has? Seems pretty cool for those of us (especially on NS, eh? :D) who find it harder to think of witty things to say than witty things to write when trying to meet people and flirt and whatnot.

so its a bit like going clubbing with sticky notes and a marker pen cause your clever and funny...

I wouldn't do it myself, it would take far too much time just sitting there and I'd rather draw attention away from my ugly mug :p

Yeah, I guess this wouldn't help if you're not even remotely good-looking.

if anyone is desperate enough to go to these then odds are they are either that or there going to handcuff you to the bed and take your wallet

I think of myself as a quiet guy, but I'm actually not. I'm usually whistling or singing or making non-sensical comments to friends. (Yeah, I'm THAT guy. Shoot me.) Around women, I usually clam up a little, but I don't think I could handle complete silence for too long.

The keyboard thing works just as well. But, any novelty dating service is better than no dating service, eh? Options!

Yeah, I think it's kind of neat! Something to try at least once, anyway.

i don't think i could do that, despite being somewhat awkward with the whole dating thing. i agonise far more over what i write than what i say, i'd be there for hours trying to get it right and i'd go through so many pads in a night. much better just to run my mouth off and hope someone thinks the drivel i come out with is somehow endearing.

That's me as well. It's very weird when I stop and realise that I got to a university with almost 20,000 people, in a city with over 1.1 million... and I'm the only one I ever see running (except to catch a bus), whistling, singing, jumping etc. But maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

Fixed.

You really only need to ask a and s. Both of equal importance as either will lead to you eventually being anally assaulted.
