Unless the French all had DNA-identical-opposite-sex twins, that would be impossible!

By contrast, some 63 percent of Italians had a positive view of the French, 54 percent of Spaniards, 51 percent of French, 41 percent of Britons and just 35 percent of Americans.

Umm...

That means MORE French had a positive view of themselves then Americans.

That means MORE French had a positive view of themselves then Americans. You need to read the beginning...

44 percent of French people thought badly of themselves against 38 percent of U.S. respondents who had a negative view of the French. The two statements are not mutually exclusive.

Actually, people should just think that it was a random poll survey.

Mind you, all, that perhaps they ironically called most of those who are against the Socialist-ways of the Government, which honestly there are less of those types in existance than Frenchman/woman who support the Socialist Government.

[Felt like quoting a mod for once, sorry but I'm not sure why I did it in the first place now...]

Anyways, it is funny to look at it that way -

6% more French than Americans hate France.

Now I may fulfill my bestest dream over -

Taking a dump infront of the Eiffel Tower...

Ohh yea..

Regardless of reasons, I have gotten really tired of French bashing. I know a few people that sit next to me in classes, who believe they're my friends (anyone else get that, where you're just too lazy to inform them otherwise?) who love to bash the French, in addition to other groups. I don't know about you, but the jokes/derogatory statements are just tired, to me.

America has the largest number of nationalists than every other country combined.

Then they surrendered. Napoleon couldn't finish the job, the same job Hitler tried. France sucks. I don't like french men, they put pressure on me to be romantic. :upyours:

I'm not quite sure if you are going for the stereotypical American "Never surrender even if you will be massacred!" or you genuinely think that.

I don't like french men, they put pressure on me to be romantic. :upyours:
I wonder if French men view American men as their competition for French women.

Not quite. They never actually CONTROLLED much of Europe, just managed to get them to say "Ok, we won't fight you."

Now the NAZIS, they took control of most of Europe.

Well Napoleon managed to "ally" with most of Europe through fear and fighting, so can't you say he controlled a lot of it?

A hallmate of mine is from France, and to hear him tell it, this attitude is fairly pervasive among the French today. His belief is (and take it with a grain of salt, of course, he is a philosopher, so he's inclined to read into things) that the French are emerging from a long history of turmoil, from the social upheavals of the revolution to the brutality of the war in Algeria. He describes the French as "tired," and says that modern France is growing ever more prone to introspection on past wrongdoings and failings.

In fact, he says that although the French see American's as obnoxious in many respects, they envy our optimism and ambition. It's this innocence in which he feels that the French find themselves lacking.

Then again, Farid says a lot of things.

Heh... I got a friend from France, with whom I used to have a similar discussion about the U.S. and France... usually he would just send me this picture to finish the point he was making =-)

Anyway, it does surprise me that so many French don't like themselves... then again, it also surprises me that so many people from the U.S.A. bashed and even boycotted french products, simply because they happen to have a different opinion about a certain war in Iraq... and that from a country that prides itself on "freedom of speech" :-S
