Hopefully this doesn't count as spam. I just wanted to share. The wedding was beautiful - all of my closest friends were there - and I had a wonderful time.

Ok, to make it not spam, people can recount wedding stories! I'll recount a little sweet one from my wedding:

One of my husband's young second cousins (he couldn't have been older than 4) discovered one of the coloring books I had left out on the table for the younger children attending. When I came by that table to say hello, his mom had me thank him for the coloring book. I said "you're welcome" and then asked him if he would color me a picture (thinking he would forget immediately). When it got to be his bedtime and they started to leave, this cute little boy came up to me with a page from the coloring book with our names and his written on it and a colored (sort of) picture. It was so sweet! =)

Yay!

Okay--my wedding story. My now ex-wife received a two-liter bottle of moonshine for a wedding gift from a co-worker, and she and the wedding party got hammered the morning of the wedding. My dad was doing the ceremony, and when my now ex-wife got to my side, she was leaning on my arm. I thought it was because she wanted to be close to me, but in reality, it was because she couldn't stand up on her own.

May your marriage be everything mine wasn't. ;)

Congratulations!

I hope that it all went well.

Edit: I forgot the story. My wife insited on a traditional American wedding to show off to her family and friends. I didn't mind as much, but it did mean that we to research the whole bit. Most of what was needed wouldn't be a problem, but there was one small issue. The giving away of the bride by her father. My father-in-law is a wonderful man, but he is a very traditional Japanese father who hasn't touched his daughter since she was big enough to walk on her own and he does not speak English. So, needless to say, when he found out that he was expected to walk down the aisle, arm and arm with his daughter, and respond in a loud clear voice to the question of "Who gives this woman away in marriage?" with "Her mother and I" he was more than a little panicked. Apparently he spent the whole night before the wedding practicing how to say it.

It came off flawlessly. :)

Of course then my wife convinced him and the rest of her family that doing the chicken dance is part of a traditional American wedding as well. ;)

I think I have shared before........

We got married at midnight, well, a minute after, at 12:01:00 on 12/01/00 in a park, and the cops showed up, apparently someone was worried that the "tree people" in the park were "doing some sort of ritual" I guess it did seem weird for a man in a suit and a woman in a white dress to be in the park with video cameras that late at night/early in the morning.......the cops said "oh, well, next time you do this, you need a permit, congrats!"

next time?!

oh, and congrats.

If I might make a suggestion (it's cheesy but fun) write each other a letter, but seal them up and don't read them until your first anniversary....it's very cool

Awwww....that's cute. My step-father is a native English speaker, but he messed up his line at his daughter's wedding. He walked her down the aisle, and when asked who gives her away, he answered "My mother and I do," instead of "Her mother and I do." We've all poked fun at him for it since. He told me he'd do anything I wanted in my wedding, as long as he didn't have a speaking role.

Of course then my wife convinced him and the rest of her family that doing the chicken dance is part of a traditional American wedding as well.

Awesome! We didn't have time for the chicken dance at mine, unfortunately, but we did have a good time dancing.

One of my coworkers had never been to an American wedding before. It would have been awesome to get her out on the dance floor for the chicken dance. We had Hava Nagila instead though. We're not Jewish, but one of our groomsmen is, and it's just a fun jubilant song to dance to.

We might have to do that. I hand-wrote letters to all of my bridesmaids and people staying at the hotel, so I'm in practice for doing it now. =)

To everyone else, thanks for all the well-wishes!

The only particularly cute wedding story I have is from my brother's wedding. The flower girl, Olivia, fell asleep a couple of hours before the ceremony began, and cried and cried whenever anyone tried to convince her to wake up. Well, no one figured this was a terribly big deal - her father offered to carry her down the aisle instead, and everyone agreed that would be fine. Everyone, that is, except for one person whose opinion had unfortunately not been considered - the ring-bearer, Jack, who opened the wedding ceremony by chasing Olivia's father down the aisle shrieking "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Once every guest had turned to stare at him, he quite cheerfully explained, "I'M the ring bear! It's MY job to hold Olivia's hand!" After a few minutes of discussion amongst the wedding party, Olivia's father was waved back outside the church, shortly to reenter carrying Olivia in one arm and Jack - proudly holding Olivia's hand - in the other.

Nah, it's more slightly odd, in a just-turned-four-years-old kind of way. Jack had simply taken the importance of his role in the wedding to heart. (He was very proud of himself afterwards, too - he spent the entirety of the reception walking up to people and saying, "Hello! I'm Jack! I'm a ring bear!") :p

Well, see, you originally didn't say that he was four years old. I was imagining a teen-ager or something similar doing that...

I have a friend who bottled out of his lifelong ambition to join the Forces. Two weeks later, he had this girlfriend (as far as I'm aware, his first ever); about two weeks after that they were going to move in together; another two weeks, and she was pregnant; another two and they were engaged. A couple of months on they got married. Six months later they (still living at her parents house) separated, and are now going through a messy divorce.

But I didn't mean to hijack the thread with my stories, and certainly not ones of doom and gloom. Go back and heap congratulations on Demi!

My sister's first wedding was a civil ceremony only but they still had her husband's two little nieces as flower girls. The ceremony was upstairs in a tiny historic building and when they were about to descend the stairs afterwards, the flower girls were told that now they could walk down the stairs before them and throw their flowers. The younger one looked all excited, took her flower basket and hurled it down the stairs.
And of course started bawling when everybody started laughing.

In a very good friend's wedding, the ring bearer was also a cutie. Upon walking into the church with the flower girl's hand in his - when people started snapping pictures, he yelled out, "NO PICTURES!" He proceeded to hold his hand in front of his face (the other hand still holding the hand of the flower girl) and walk down the entire aisle with his face covered. =)

Congrats, Dempub. You seem like a decent one; I hope you enjoy your decision to marry and whatever comes after this.

May I, out of curiosity, ask how old your husband is? This is in no way meant derogatively, but he sure does look a lot younger than you.. was he even legal? ;P

As for marriage stories.. well, my first marriage wa sthat of my parents when I was nine years old (civil ceremony), and I was horrified when I found out the night before that there was to be no flower girl.. I had a very limited grasp of what a wedding is, but that was the one thing I knew and liked. Naturally, I started bawling my eyes out for the whole night, and convinced my mother to cave in in the end and get some flower thingies for me in the morning right before the ceremony.
I think I was the proudest flower girl ever, and I even took my job (and my responsibility for the environment - remember I'm German, and brought up that way ;] ) so serious that I went and collected all the flowers I had just flung around back into my basket before we left the scene again. I earned that one or the other laugh.. but at least then I had flowers again and could proceed to hurl them all over the restaurant we went to afterwards :]

Awwwww!

One of my flower girls was also a flower girl in her parents' wedding. When she got down the to the end of the aisle, she looked around and then said, "Got to clean up this mess!" and went al the way back down the aisle picking them back up and putting them in her basket. It was so adorable! In our wedding, she forgot to throw any flowers until she got all the way the altar, so she threw some at us once we were both there. =)
