Yay!
Now repeat after me...
"if you don't like the way I'm driving, then get the hell off of the sidewalk!"
Two points:
1) Driving isn't really all it's cracked up to be - it's useful, yes, but not that important. Give it a year and you'll see.
2) Insurance is a pain. Expect your parents to make you get a part-time job in the near future to help with the costs.

and to add on...
Driving is normally boring. if it's exciting, then you are doing something wrong.
and never, ever ignore the "check engine" light. :p

I hear that the driver's licence tests in the US are really easy. The theory part is supposed to be really short and the driving part ridiculously simple.
So, it shouldn't take so much from you.

You have to take classroom lessons and driving tests to get your learners permit? In Maryland we just take an insanely test and they hand us a permit. :p

Heh. At the moment, our '91 Buick Regal is sitting in my parent's driveway, needing a $500 fuel pump transplant. So, we've been using their minivan since Christmas, 'cause we're poor. Around New Years, the 'check engine' light flashed on. Dad said, don't worry, it's fine, it's just a computer thing. I rolled my eyes, but let it ride. A few days later, the damn thing stalled out. In the middle of an intersection. At 6 in the morning. Blech. Dad said, fill the tank, it's fine. Three days later, on one of the coldest days of the winter, it stalled again. Three blocks from their house. They finally brought it in to a mechanic, and it needed $700 in work. Somehow, I womanfully restrained myself from shouting "I told you so!" at the top of my lungs, but it was a struggle.

We have roundabouts. Of course, they are in Washington DC which cancels out the fun.

I do, too, but I'm still grateful that I don't have to drive all the way out to Ionia for the Althing. I have a job lead, and I'll be on my feet for eight hours starting sometime this week, and I think I'll want to rest my poor hip.

We have a roundabout! One, single roundabout. You'd think it was the most confusing damn thing people out here have seen, judging by the mail in the paper. And there's the nutbars who think that a cabal of witches in the basement of the Chronicle building are using the damn thing to raise Satanic power...

I failed the test the first time I took it. :( That was mostly because everyone told me not to study for it because it was super easy...but I haven't been around hills before and so I really had no idea about all the questions they gave me about parking on hills. The signs test was really easy, and the second time I took the test it was really easy.

We don't have to do a driving test in order to get a permit though. How do people learn to drive without a permit? Driver's ed isn't offered here, at least not in school. I took it over the summer.
I was extremely nervous about it, to the point of nausea, since I had barely driven at all before and the course could have ruined my GPA. I was really bad at it at the beginning, and I failed at the practice driving test, and the first time I took one that counted, but then I passed it the third time pretty easily. I improved a lot, and I managed to get an A for the driver's ed grade (I did really well on the classroom part, and got maybe a low B in the driving section, so it averaged out to an A.:)) I even drove on an interstate! I got all the way up to the speed limit! That seems way too fast to me; it makes me nervous.:(

I have to deal with roundabouts. They == suck.
That's great news. I failed the driving test 3 times before passing. As for the 4th time, I actually thought I failed because I made so many mistakes. I was so angry that I considered just flooring the gas pedal all the way to the DMV. Good thing I didn't or I'd have to take it again.
