Addams Family Vs. The Munster!

Two very weird and strange family from TV, The Addams Family and The Munster, they both take place in a haunted house, both have strange and weird creature, and both have catchy theme song, however, which family is superior? For me, it would have to be the Addams Family, I mean I've watched the original black and white, along with "The New Addams Family" their cartoon series as well as their two movies, and lets face it, The Addams Family rocks. I mean who doesn't love the way Gomez smoke cigars, or how Uncle Fester can light up a light bulb with his mouth, or how Gomez always kiss Morticia when she speaks French. The two children are nuts too. However, I don't like The Munsters as much, they just seem to be a poor rip off of The Addams Family, and it just doesn't have the same zeal that The Addams Family have. So, now it's time for you to vote which creepy family is best! (Poll coming)

I'm going to have to go with the Munsters, if only due to the fact that my last name is Adams, and I've had to live my whole life with the 'duh-duh-duh-duh' crap. Really, my family did not start when Uncle Fester farted. Okay....

They're creepy and they're kookie, mysterious and spooky, they're all around okay, The Addams Family! :D
The Munsters have the better name. They win. :)

The Addams family are classy, sarcastic and subtle. Totally cool; who else would call their son Pubert?

The Addams, of course.
Weren't the Munsters basically a rip-off? Well, they seem like one even if they weren't.

Has someone been watching too much TV Land which airs these two shows back to back? I know I have, because I've had this discussion.
Addams Family is a much more complicated concept to explain because they themselves aren't monsters (except maybe Cousin It and Thing) where as The Munsters are, well, monsters (two golems, a werewolf boy who I guess is the natural offspring of golems, a vampire and a dragon named Spot). It's "what if monsters had to live daily lives and were just like any other suburban family except, you know, monsters."
The Addams know monsters and warlocks and witches and the like but they themselves are just weird good natured contrarians, with things like Gomez trying his hardest to lose money and instead making brilliant moves that make him even more money that frustrates him (but he takes it well).
I like the complexity of The Addams better because it doesn't end up as easily shackled to playing out the premise (though it does fall into that trap anyway)

I grew up watching Munsters every night as a child, so they win.

The Addams Family have teamed up with Scooby Doo. 'Nuff said. :)
The Munsters have the better name. They win. :)
Really? I like the subtlety of the Addams family name.

So do I! Also, who could beat the lovely figure of Morticia?

The Addams family.

The Munsters are a blue collar family (Herman works at a funeral parlor, and Lilly had done odd jobs now and then), while the Addamses are sitting-on-their-vast-family-fortune-along-with-investments-in-all sorts-of-businesses white collar.
This should be a class war.
:D :D :D :D
I like the Addams Family, partly because the original New Yorker cartoons are so awesome and classic. Very shocking in their day.

Nicely explained, but what IS a golem anyway? Is that the name for somebody who is put together from dead people?

It's a reference to Flesh Golem, a D&D monster term created to refer to Frankenstein's Creature-type constructs. The actual term "Golem" comes from Jewish mythology about a clay statue brought to life to protect the Jews.
And Lilly is a vampire, so that makes one golem and two vampires.

Oh, yeah I thought so cause Golems are clay and iron creatures in Heroes of Might and Magic IV.

Outed me as the total nerd that I am.
In my defense, I haven't played that game in years. I just didn't want to say "two Frankenstein's monsters..." though if I thought about it I would have said a Frankenstein's monster and a Bride of Frankenstein, which is Lilly. She's even got the streaks in her hair. I know Grandpa is her dad, but I think that's the thing, he's both their dad because he made them. I could be wrong on all of that.
EDIT:...aaaaannd I am. At least according to wikipedia...at least I think. She's supposed to be Dracula's daughter, but she also originally had green skin and does have the Bride of Frankenstein streaks in her hair...ah well...

Actually, the weirdest, strangest and most altogether "ooky" family on TV was The Brady Bunch.
i 'seriously resent' the abscence of a BOTH option. (ok, not so seriously because it isn't that big of a deal)
i though both were cool. and each had some element that when watching one you missed from the other and it took a moment or two to realize the reason you weren't seeing it was that it was part of the other.
at any rate i did watch both, and i can't say either was all that much better then the other. i liked them both or i wouldn't have done so.
back on the old 'table model' sears silvertone black and white we had when they were both for the first time being shown.

Well not exactly. Sure in the sense of a family of monsters/horror things, but the style in which the Munsters was executed differed considerably from the Adams Family. That said I went with Adams, as I felt like it.
