I'm in a thread-making mood-- my parents have taken over babysitting my niece and nephew (who are extremely hyper ) But my mom is curious. She wants to know what happens when I drink an energy drink.

I heard that it causes more liver damage over 2 years than drinking for 40 years.

And that the crash is not fun.

I do not want an evergy drink. I have Metadate (new ADD meds, no more Concerta YAY!) to keep me awake.

Which brings up an interesting question-- why are Americans so obsessed with caffeine and stimulants? Everywhere you look, somebody's drunk 5 cups of coffee, 3 cans of Red Bull, or have taken Ritalin or Adderall or some ADHD med they most likely don't need. Why do Americans need all this?

Apparently, we are not getting enough sleep. Why aren't we getting enough sleep? What do Americans have against sleep? Everyone stays up till 11 pm, but has to be at work/school/whatever at 7:30 am.

Should everything start later? Should people start turning in earlier? What do you think?

Absolutely spammy Pancake-made poll coming soon, to a thread near you!

Not always the americans. My friend lived for three days with no sleep, eating Pro-plus and coca cola. Still capable of driving, apparently...

Just thought I'd throw that in...

there is a big push to get everything done, and done well, and done in an alert state......over half of the stay at home mom's I know get less than 5 hours of sleep a night on average, the other half gets less because they have babies. I know a few of them who have turned to illicit drugs to try to keep up. I just don't sleep, and end up exhausted to the point of needing hospitalization, my way is much more healthy than meth or crack, cheaper too, well, not really cheaper or healthier, but at least I am not on drugs (if you don't count caffeine which I am legitimately addicted to)

at least the kids get naps.......

11pm is late?! yesterday i went to bed at 5.30am and that wasn't that late for me.

although i do have something against sleep. or everything against sleep. i hate going to sleep, being asleep and waking up. rarely is it a pleasurable experience for me. in fact the first 2 never are, waking up occaisionally is once in a blue moon when i don't have anything to do and the sun is shining through my window and there is a soft breeze blowing through and i can hear my flatmates chatting away cheerfuly in the kitchen. only have one flatmate now though.

Well, I know it's not just the Americans, but I haven't heard about people being uber-wired anywhere else...

We (I) simply have too much work to do. I have nothing against sleep at all, I love it.
To remedy the issue; not only should everything start later as well as everyone go to sleep sooner, all work should be abolished. This way, we can wake up, realize there is nothing to do, and go back to sleep.
