Eat your heart out, Lars.
This has to be the coolest thing an artist has ever done.

The latest batch of NIN multitrack files is available for download here (http://www.nin.com/current/index.html).
Trent plans to release the entire new album in this manner over the next few months.
If you like Nine Inch Nails, or if you're just interested in how a mainstream artist puts together a song, check it out.

The first three links are Mac Garageband format, the next ones are in n00b format (all the loops put together into a few tracks).
If you want the loops in a PC friendly format, download the Garageband versions, open the .aiff's in iTunes, and pick convert to .wav.

Oh, and you can also find previous multitracks further down the page and on the downloads page.

Isn't this old news? And old news that the RIAA was still trying to shut it down.

I personally liked how System of a Down got annoyed at their fans for downloading music before it was released. They didn't care it got downloaded for free, they'd just prefer that it wasn't leaked.

He's released singles like this, but now he's going to release the entire new album.
And he's got a history of fighting the industry.
I expect a showdown might set them back enough to make them think twice about going after an actual artist.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the fact that he's doing this through thepiratebay is nice little added slap to the RIAA's face.

It's certainly a slap in the face to the RIAA...

But I still prefer "Pull My Strings".

If the artist is putting it up himself, and he isn't under contract to sell it under a distributor, wouldn't that mean RIAA doesn't have a leg to stand on if he puts it up on thepiratebay?

When has that stopped the RIAA? They are threatening the site hosts with their expensive legal teams, not the artist.

Good for Reznor.

I also like how he worked the album packaging as well. He always complained about how current packaging doesn't allow for good artwork anymore, and Year Zero does a great job of making the most of it. No track listing or label information...just some cool artwork.

The multi-tracks are some kick ass songs as well...I'm a big NIN fan, but Year Zero is probably some of the best work he's done since Pretty Hate Machine...18 years ago!

...those are also three of my favorite tracks from the new disc available on that site. :D

Really? I've seen some sick album art recently, though I'll grant you not as much as there used to be. For instance, Have you seen the album art for Tool's 10,000 Days?

I tend to agree, except I prefer Downward Spiral over PHM.
I think it's cool how he's been releasing his music over the past few months. Apparently at his concerts around the world he's been leaving USB devices with one song on them in the toilets, allowing ppl to upload them.
Great marketing gimmick.

For awesome artwork, I like the minimalism of "The Wall" by Pink Floyd, and the sheer fucking awesomeness of the artwork for "Hypnotize" by System of a Down.

I dunno, from what I've listened to, NIN isn't really my thing.

They take some getting used to...though the new album is much more political than anything he's done before.

Considering that they're trying to impose American laws on Sweden, either they need a new legal team who can tell them how screwed up they are, or management needs to be shot.

I don't think it is fair to say that track listing or label information (or lyrics even)
is a handicap on good artwork, work around it and add more pages to the booklet.
Shame on both of you.

Most bands aren't big on lots of art in the booklets, to expensive I guess. System of a Down, Sonata Arctica, Dead Kennedys, and a few others are really all I've seen.
