It was 70 years ago yesterday that the bombing of Guernica occurred.
It led to one of the most stunning pieces of artwork of the 20th Century:

So not all bad came out of it.

Guernica (http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/article2486616.ece)
One story I heard about Picasso and this painting:
In 1940, when Paris was occupied by the Nazis, Picasso handed out prints of Guernica to German officers. When they asked asked him“Did you do this?” (referring to the pictures), he replied, “No, you did”.

Cameroi

i think it is wonderful and we of cameroi deeply appreciate this reminder of something that can happen anywhere under any idiology, when it is allowed to become, as it did then and indeed so similarly seems to be attempting to become now.

camoroi votes to make guernica day an international day of celibration of the arts in defence of freedom. and the reminders and parables they can sometimes provide for us all.

Art is the only good thing that ever came out of war.

And Picasso was a funny man!
