US military admits it invented war heroes, media to blame.
by Jerome Bernard Wed Apr 25, 4:31 PM ET

WASHINGTON(AFP)- Facing accusations that it invented war heroes from Afghanistan and Iraq for propaganda purposes, the US military admitted Wednesday it had made mistakes but said the media was also to blame.

One of the soldiers at the center of the row and the brother of another "hero" killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday accused the military of peddling lies in both cases to rally a hero-starved American public.

So they are saying "We admit the error.. by not really our fault.. the American public is hero-starved and we must feed them with propaganda."

The greatest political weapons knonw to man kind. Deniability, and the blame game. You know it took the supreme court to get this out?

Of course its the fault of the public, we want to be lied to so that we feel better about going to Iraq. The government and military has no responsibility whatsoever for making shit up, they are just giving the people what they want! Government has to lie to us, otherwise we might develop emotional troubles. Or something.

If I recall correctly, this whole issue was brought in front of the US Supreme Court of Inquiry. Jessica Lynch made a statement yesterday. It was all over the news.. unless it was a different court?

Yes, the American Public is so desperate for heroes that they called the Tillman Family and Jessica Lynch traitors for daring to spoil their fantasies with Reality's liberal bias.

The real sad part is, how many military next of kin are now wondering if their loved one really died fighting the enemy or was a case of friendly fire? I understand that in war those things happen, but now over 3,000 families are wondering if they were told the truth or not.

Well, it'd do wonders for morale if it got out that everytime the military needed a hero, someone would be shot, and spin told about how they died hmmm?

Long story short. Just another criminal issue that the military pretends never happened.

It's like they suddenly figured out that Robert Ludlum had a great idea for boosting troop morale and public opinion.

It's hard to be a hero in an unjust war against an enemy that's not only willing, but eager to die for their cause.

You invented the phantom glocal islamist movement now you have created a nationalist uprising in Iraq to somehow call them the 'terrorists', they only exist because of US presense.

About Jessica Lynch:
In the article about her in Time a couple years ago, she stated that she was not 'firing her gun to the last bullet'. See, her gun jammed, so she simply took cover. The media did make her out to be a hero, but there wasn't anything thrilling. Her convoy got attacked, she got severely wounded, and spent several weeks in hospital before the hospital fell to US troops, after which she was transferred to a US medical facility. She herself said that she wasn't a hero.
That said, she still joined the military willingly, so she's still a hero in my book (I define hero as 'someone who takes great personal risks to help others' which tends to include the vast majority of soldiers).

Pat Tillman is also one hell of a hero, for the same reasons. That he died from friendly fire is a tragedy, but does not make him less of a hero. He would be a hero if he had died in a Humvee crash.

You're not making any sense at all. The last thing we would ever do when our troops are killed by our other troops is fire anyone, heck we dont even tell anyone if we can get away with it.
