Mongoose attacks New York!

Eh, well sort of.
I'm visiting New York for a week or so, from this Friday. Manhattan to be specific, as I have a friend who is putting me up somewhere in the Midtown area.
And because I am incredibly lazy (and busy with work until about 4 hours before my flight leaves) gimme 5 things I 'must' do/see/visit/'experience' and 5 things to avoid/not say/not do at all costs etc etc.
In essence, is it possible to boil it down to the bare essentials?
Money's not particularly an issue so... shoot! :)
Edit: W00t for a 6,000th post!
DON'T carry out a terrorist attack. Especially not against the WTC (it's already been done before).
That's all I can think of :p
We don't want no mongoose terrorists now, do we?

I didn't read who made this thread and was hoping for a news article about a mongoose that was terrorizing New Yorkers.
You, sir, have disappointed me.
Keep an eye on the news over the next few days then :D
But but! I just warned you not to!

I was thinking about the time I was in Punjab...We did have a mongoose loose in the hotel.

Advice-Don't act like a moron on the subway. Study the subway system really hard before you ride on one, so you look like you know what you're doing, or just act like you know what you're doing.
Err.... I wouldn't go to the WTC, which a lot of touristy types seem to like to do... Just walking around midtown might be fun, depending on if you've been there before... I'd try and get down to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, cause everything is just starting to bloom, including the amazingly pretty cherry blossums, but it might be too far out of the way... Four hours is just enough time to catch a Mets game. :p
I really don't know much touristy stuff though.
Subway ettiquette is seriously important though.

Mongooses are tasty when prepared with the proper seasonings and spices.:D Oh, and make cute house-pets when trained!

gimme 5 things I 'must' do/see/visit/'experience'
None of the things listed below, of which there are, not coincidently, five
5 things to avoid/not say/not do at all costs etc etc.
1) Don't make any WTC jokes (this will get you either looked at a bit oddly / beaten up)
2) Don't scream "ALLAHU AKHBAR" and then run at any remaining land marks (you may well be shot at)
3) Don't throw a penny off the Empire state building (I hear they have some kind of protective measure under the roof full of pennies, as it stands)
4) Don't eat in any kind of crappy restaurant if money's no issue - food poisoning r sad
5) Don't listen to much to my list of crap advice, just enjoy yourself in whatever way comes naturally

Woot indeed!

My best experience of New York was standing on top of the WTC in a strong breeze. Sadly, I gather that is no longer an option so I'd say just do what comes naturally and enjoy yourself.
I (plus two other idiots I was youth hostelling with) did a few things which aren't recommended in the guidebooks. Wandering about aimlessly on the subway, and taking a stroll through Central Park at 2am ish (jetlag) spring to mind. One night we got separated and one of our group got off the subway at the wrong stop. He ended up walking back through Harlem on his own. He said it was a bit scary, so we called him a lightweight.

Thanks. Appreciate it. I always try to avoid looking like I don't know what I'm doing abroad..... granted I inevitably end up on the wrong train/bus but meh *shrug* :)
Damn it, Yootopia. They're all the fun things! :fluffle:
Cheers DCD. Thats a good idea and one that would never have crossed my mind.

I took one of my buddies from Florida there once. Colbert (back when he was on the daily show) was hosting though.
