It's about freakin' time! This guy is the embodiment of everything that is worng with politics and is the one person in the administration who I think is more responsible for the disaster that has been the last six years than even Bush or Cheney!

WASHINGTON — Most of the time, an obscure federal investigative unit known as the Office of Special Counsel confines itself to monitoring the activities of relatively low-level government employees, stepping in with reprimands and other routine administrative actions for such offenses as discriminating against military personnel or engaging in prohibited political activities.

But the Office of Special Counsel is preparing to jump into one of the most sensitive and potentially explosive issues in Washington, launching a broad investigation into key elements of the White House political operations that for more than six years have been headed by chief strategist Karl Rove.

Highlights!

The question of improper political influence over government decision-making is at the heart of the controversy over the firing of U.S. attorneys and the ongoing congressional investigation of the special e-mail system installed in the White House and other government offices by the Republican National Committee.

All administrations are political, but this White House has systematically brought electoral concerns to Cabinet agencies in a way unseen previously.

"This is a big deal," Paul C. Light, a New York University expert on the executive branch, said of Bloch's plan. "It is a significant moment for the administration and Karl Rove. It speaks to the growing sense that there is a nexus at the White House that explains what's going on in these disparate investigations."

The 106-person Office of Special Counsel has never conducted such a broad and high-profile inquiry in its history. One of its primary missions has been to enforce the Hatch Act, a law enacted in 1939 to preserve the integrity of the civil service.

That domain name showed up in e-mail communications from Jennings about how to replace U.S. Atty. H.E. "Bud" Cummins III of Arkansas to make room for Timothy Griffin, a Rove protege, in such a way as to "alleviate pressure/implication that Tim forced Bud out."

:p :p :p :p :p I'm so happy! :p :p :p :p

Thank the gods. Even if he can't be gotten at legally, I still want him experiencing the slight discomfort of having his ass roasted over years of investigative fires as a lesson for little boys not to play with adult toys.

Anything that will free us of that miserable little gnat buzzing and stinging around the ears of our government is more than welcome in my eyes.

Let's hope it sticks, let's hope he gets fried, and let's hope he goes to a prison with a burly 7 ft. tall man who refers to him as "Carla, my little prison bride" as his cellmate.

Also, I apologize for forcing upon people the image of Rove being thus, er, pleasured.

You know, it's mean to make fun of people because of their weight.

Meh. I don't know enough about the Man himself to decide whether or not this is a good thing.

But, I still don't know what the big fuss is about the firing of the attorneys. First of all, it's a perogative of the office of the Attorney General (And by extension the president). Second of all, Clinton fired 93, then hired most of them back. Conspicously absent were the attorneys investigating the Clinton's involvement in a massive real estate 'scam,' The other investigating the minority speaker of the time, who it turned out was embezzling money from the House post office. Honestly, what's the big deal?

I added the bold, because it relates to my question: this is the second time I've seen "worng" used instead of "wrong". Is this like using "teh" instead of "the", or is it just a mistake.

Oh, and it's very nice Karl Rove is being investigated.

The Big Deal:

1) Prosecutors are supposed to be independent. If the Bush administration was using a political litmus test to choose or remove federal prosecutors, rather than a professional performance standard, and if that litmus test required that federal prosecutors be "loyal Bushies" as one of their emails called them, then that undermines the independence of the prosecutors' offices.

2) Politically motivated prosecutors conduct politically motivated prosecutions. That undermines everything US law stands for, undermines the very concept of the rule of law, and threatens the liberty of every American.

3) The Hatch Act helps avoid such conflicts of interest by prohibiting government employees from engaging in political activities/work on government job time. So if Bush's prosecutors are being expected to act as agents of his party, then they could be violating that rule, and if the admin players involved in this were using prosecutor appointments to further a political agenda, they could also be in violation of Hatch. Hatch is a law, by the way, so they would be breaking the law.

4) The fact that Bush admin officials conducted so much of the correspondence about this on non-official email accounts is a violation of the law governing presidential records. They are not allowed to pass private notes about public business. So that would be another law broken.

5) And just to add a little dollop of stupidity on top of this whole stupid sundae, if they had just let the 8 prosecutors go without saying a word about it, nobody would have noticed their little end-run around established procedure and law. They had the right to fire the prosecutors for any reason or no reason. If they had stated no reason at all, the prosecutors would not have questioned their firings, even though they were upset about it. It was their bosses' false claims that they were fired for bad job performance that got this started. Did they really think those 8 professional attorneys were going to let their reputations be damaged like that? The Justice Dept. could have fired them all, given them all excellent references, and wished them luck, and that would have been that. But, as usual, the Bush admin just cannot refrain from being a bunch of shits to others.

They just can't keep their stupid mouths shut. It's the only thing that might save this nation.
