Is it that you have a large image file and you want to reduce file size and are therefore asking, thinking it's the best way, how to use photoshop to do that?

Or are you working specifically in photoshop and want to reduce file size?

For the time being I will be pleased wtih anything that reduces this already teeny 84k file to a 10k file so I can get rid of the Malta flag for my nation. ANYTHING will do.

EDIT: I know. I'm not the smartest computer person. *sighs deeply*

Re-save it as a jpeg.

Lose a few pixels on each side... shrink what's left. For the record this is coming from someone who doesn't know a thing about Photoshop.

No problems, a quick way is to put it into Powerpoint, then right-click on the image and click on Format Picture.

On the pop-up box you'll see Compress Picture, do that, mark it for web/screen - 96dpi.

Then save and copy from the powerpoint.

For photoshop use this (http://www.middlebury.edu/NR/rdonlyres/7BA0ECCC-0A5B-42C8-A3BE-E9D9A0A5A505/0/PhotoshopReduceFileSize.pdf)

And how would I be doing that? God this is really not a good day for me...

A thousand thanks! :fluffle: If it works, I'll need your address for the flower delivery.

Okay... That didn't work...

I'm trying really hard not to lose patience with myself...

The powerpoint way doesn't give me a 'compress picture' option (sandblasted mac version!).
And the photoshop way doesn't give me any less than 68k.

use the 'save for web' option on the file menu (in CS2). play around with the jpg compression settings until its filesize is small enough.

alternatively resample the image's actual physical size. what resolution is the image currently? go to image menu > image size to find out and make it smaller (you can select percentages and half its size, etc). that would also work.

with a combination of the two you can probably get there :)

Ahh, this is why computer people always ask what system you're using - I'd need to load up my Mac to work out how the Powerpoint works there but, to be honest, I'm not prepared to do that right now so if no one's provided an answer within 4-5 hours I'll get back to you.

As someone else also said, can you crop the picture much?
Eraeya

I can't crop it anymore. I wouldn't have any picture left.

I'll try the save for web thing. If that doesn't work, I'll try finding another picture to my liking. Or ask a mod. Or go lie on my bed crying like a little girl with a thooth ache.

But in any case, thank you for all the good advice! I'll mess around some more with it.

Time for champaign!

It worked (save for web)!! AND I learned something! This day is actually turning for the better!

Virtual Boston Cream Pie or fruit salad for everyone!

:fluffle: to the smart people on this thread! More champaign anyone? *builds a tower of glasses and poors, poors, poors,...*

For Mac, place the image on your desktop

If you CTRL click the image a graphic converter option appears - click on that.

Then click Picture on the drop down menu and the 3rd option (on mine - OSX) you'll see resolution.

Click on resolution and set to 72 ppi on both images.

Try that.

EDIT: Bugger, already solved, that'll teach me to think I need to load up the Mac - glad you've got it working though

good point, didn't think of that. a 300ppi image would have to be tiny to get under 10kb :p

I think that's what 'save to web' does anyway so in a less complicated way than me, you did
