The Draft

So, as I'm sure you all know, The Draft is next weekend.

No, no, not that kind of draft. I'm not talking about forced military service. I'm talking, of course, about the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Draft) It's like Christmas for American Football fans.

Who's your favorite team? Who/What do you want them to draft? Do you have your heart set on a certain guy, or do you feel that a certain position or two is what needs to be addressed? Do you want your team to trade up in order to get a certain player/position, or do you want your team to trade down in order to stockpile more draft picks?

Me, I'm a Cleveland Browns fan (thank you for your condolences). Cleveland drafts third this year, and we need about seventy-billion new players on the roster (OK, maybe not that many). Picking third would be great, and should net a solid player in return. But we have too many holes to fill; no one player is going to be able to turn the team around in one year. As such, I fall into the 'trade down and stockpile picks' camp.

If Cleveland can't trade down, I DO NOT want a quarterback or running back. I want Joe Thomas, the Left Tackle from Wisconsin. Premier Left Tackles are hard to come by, and the Browns O-Line needs work (just like everything else, basically).

Here's the Draft Order, along with last year's record.

1 Oakland Raiders 2-14
2 Detroit Lions 3-13
3 Cleveland Browns# 4-12
4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers# 4-12
5 Arizona Cardinals 5-11
6 Washington Redskins 5-11
7 Minnesota Vikings 6-10
8 Houston Texans 6-10
9 Miami Dolphins 6-10
10 Atlanta Falcons 7-9
11 San Francisco 49ers 7-9
12 Buffalo Bills 7-9
13 St. Louis Rams 8-8
14 Carolina Panthers 8-8
15 Pittsburgh Steelers 8-8
16 Green Bay Packers 8-8
17 Jacksonville Jaguars 8-8
18 Cincinnati Bengals 8-8
19 Tennessee Titans 8-8
20 New York Giants 8-8
21 Denver Broncos 9-7
22 Dallas Cowboys 9-7
23 Kansas City Chiefs 9-7
24 New England Patriots (from Seattle) 9-7
25 New York Jets 10-6
26 Philadelphia Eagles 10-6
27 New Orleans Saints 10-6
28 New England Patriots 12-4
29 Baltimore Ravens 13-3
30 San Diego Chargers 14-2
31 Chicago Bears 13-3
32 Indianapolis Colts 12-4
# -- Cleveland won coin flip for third choice

And here's a Mock Draft that includes the top players, and where they might go (although I don't agree with this particular mock, there are just too many out there, and I just picked one).

Assuming that I can figure out the Poll Function, I'll post a poll with options. In the meantime, discuss.

I'd love to see Jamarcus Russel playing hockey.

Right now I'm just happy the Jets stole Thomas Jones from the Bears. Anything else is just gravy. I wouldn't mind getting that fullback from Rutgers at all though. And Adrian Peterson to the Browns? Nahh.

It'd be nice to get some production from tight end though, Pennington would really love that. And their defense is a bit... inconsitent. 3-4 outside linebackers would be nice, as would big defensive ends or a true nosetackle so they can move robertson to end. Or just switch back to a 4-3, to match their damn personel. Eh, can't complain about Mangini too much.

Do you think Matt Millen is going to draft a WR for the 17th year in a row? :p

I think Millen will do everything he can to ensure the Lions have no chance at anything close to real success. I also do believe he will go with a dumbass move like a fecking WR. But it doesnt matter who the Lions draft as long a Millen is in the drivers seat.

My favorite team is the Kansas City Chiefs. Given that they pick 23rd and they're not getting a Gaines Adams or an Amobi Okoye at that spot, they should draft Ted Ginn Jr. They sorely need a fast WR with return skills, given that the Chiefs have needed receiver help for years and Dante Hall is not the return man he once was.

I'm still in shock that New Orleans drafts so far down, for once in their lives.

I'm still in shock that Houston didn't draft Reggie Bush...or Vince Young, for that matter.

Oh, and the steelers need a whole host of things to help them out. they need to find a suitable replacement for Joey Porter, and get another decent WR.

I lol every single time I see the Raiders record last year, especially because of the circumstances.

Me? I'm a Pats fan, I've been one since they sucked. So as long as we pick up a good DB, which we should, I could give a flying fuck about the draft.

Well, the Eagles have a late pick, no future in sight, and refuse to improve the receiving corps.

If they don't draft Posluszny, I may riot.

I don't think Pos will be there when the Iggles pick.

I have an inkling he will, but knowing my Birds, they will draft another a) d-lineman or b) o-lineman.

Who will either a) injure himself in camp b) be lost in a rotation c) be completely mediocre.

Happens every year.

I'm praying for a PSU linebacker to help them out in the linebacking core.

The Lions. My woeful Lions. The French of the NFL. Every person they draft in the first round will bust. The 4th law of Thermodynamics.

I prey they just draft some no-name dude our of Asshole A&M, as to not ruin the promising careers of good players.

Now, to the Packers, my first love. They need a back. With luck, Marshawn Lynch will be there when they pick.

Da' Bears! need some offense.

We probably would like a younger offensive lineman considering our average age of the line o-line is over 30 and a tight end, and another wide receiver.

But we'll probably just get 4 more defensive players and then have an even MORE kick ass defense.

Doesn't matter. He could still rifle a pass through double coverage from 6 feet under. :D

Meh, I figured I should have a little fun with it. I was figuring the thread would either 1) die a slow death with nobody posting, or 2) be filled with posters saying 'football is teh stoopid'. Either way, I figured I'd get some views from the title alone.

Quite frankly, I thought he was going to retire after this season. I'm glad he's comming back, though. He really started to play well the 2nd half of the season. I hope the Pack can at least get one more year out of him.
