PHNOM PENH, Cambodia: Two opposing groups of Buddhist monks clashed in the streets of the Cambodian capital Friday during a protest to demand religious freedom for their colleagues living across the border in southern Vietnam.

Hehe, didn't expect that, to be honest. Just goes to show, Buddhism is not going to change human nature either. Religions are just reflections of ourselves, and not all that much more...

I don't get why they fought if they're protesting the same thing.

Walking around with your head in the clouds
It makes no sense at all
I know you're so short, but you're walking so tall
It makes no sense at all

I don't know why you wanna tell me
When I'm right, or when I'm wrong
It's the same thing in your mind
The only time I'm right is when I play along
When I play along...

Buddhism has never been a religion of peace. Its just all this nonsense from the "Free Tibet" Campaign that has got people to think that.

Yeah, I forget all those Kurosawa movies I watched. Those were Buddhists, eh?

Well, I think it had to do with the "Khmer race" being oppressed by the Vietnamese. So maybe the Cambodian monks fought the Vietnamese monks for ethnic reasons.

According to the report, only one monk was injured. It's a far cry from the car-burning and riot cops we see in other areas.

This puts me in mind of that scene in (I think) Attack of the Clones (yes, they were a scourge on the name of star wars) where Yoda gets medieval on the Sith.

Maybe they want to make a scene to draw attention to their cause, but they can't let innocent 3rd parties be hurt, so instead they split and create this scene to beat themselves up?

Sounds like an interesting way to do a violent protest.
