I feel a need for more useless chatter! Hence this question to everyone who's a bit hungry: What's your favorite dessert?

I think mine is white chocolate mousse. But that's probably because I just had some.

It means milk-something.. sorry, my Greek is rusty, if it was ever decent to begin with. :p

It's baked custard layered between filo, with a light sweet syrup on top, with option powdered sugar.. it's better than it sounds, crispy and creamlike, and sweet all at once, sometimes with a bit of lemon. Looks a bit like:

You can't go wrong with a dessert that sounds at least a little like "Napoleon.." :p The Napoleon is probably on my top ten favorite pastries, now that I've been reminded..

Nah, I don't know what those are called here.

Here, a Napoleon is a custard/crust layered pastry with a thick top that's usually chocolate... there's a wide variety, but that's the norm. They're pretty good.. though I guess I'm probably just partial to anything with good fluffy custard.. :p

It's kinda extraordinary, but my grandma definitely makes the best dessert imaginable ;]. It's completely self-made apple puree, then whipped cream on it and over it all fresh choco crumbles. =D Definitely the best ever!!! xD

The Black Rock Desert...

Oh wait, dessert, not desert. Um... I'd have to say Death By Chocolate ice cream, with fudge sauce.

Actually I did mis-read the title of the thread and thought what a cool thread for all us desert rats, but alas...

Mississippi mud pie - the way I make it, not the chocolate sponge cake you seem to get in restaurants. I doubt it's an authentic Creole or Cajun recipe, but it is from the Deep South.

It's basically an incredibly rich chocolate cheese cake. Biscuit crumb and chocolate base; layer of dark chocolate moose; layer of coffee moose.
I make three or four a year, for special occasions, and I don't really consider it a success unless someone tells me: "That's the nicest thing I've ever eaten."
I've done experimental versions with extra layers, but ended up with something so rich you could hardly eat it.

I won't bother to post the recipe here, but TG me if you're interested and I'll send you a copy.

If I had to pick just one, it would probably be my wild blackberry tart with creme anglaise and pureed raspberry sauce.

Other contenders, depending on my mood, might include pineapple upside-down cake, gingerbread, triple-chocolate caramel cookies, kiwi and apricot pavlovas, apple dumplings, blueberry buckle, and many more things which I would list if I were not already dying of hunger from naming this many desserts. :p

To be more specific, anything with the words 'chocolate' and 'fudge' and/or 'white'. Trifle is good too.

OHHH yeah, that one's great. But you can't find that over here, if you want it, you have to make it yourself. I'm under the impression my country has a comparably low culinary heritage... Curse Belgian chocolates.

So, is that a Norwegyan moose? And you just poor the chocolate over the moose? :p I'm sorry. Muppets.

Mooooooooooooooooooose! (I'm really sorry. It's late over here. I'm tripping.)

But I'd really really love that recipe, so I can enhance my culinary heritage.

death by chocolate

the way my mom makes it, it has layers of chocolate pudding with some kahlua and ripped up pieces of devil's food cake and layers of whipped cream with crushed score bars on top.

But really, anything with lots of chocolate will do.

Or green tea ice cream. (yum)
